Pooley Bridge and Northern Ullswater

At the northern end of Ullswater lake sits the delightful village of Pooley Bridge. Offering a good selection of shops and boasting some truly wonderful views, Pooley Bridge is an excellent base for exploring this beautiful part of the Lake District and the Eden Valley to the east.

Pooley Bridge is a popular tourist destination due to its lake side location. The famous Ullswater Steamers, two vintage cruise boats, depart from Pooley Bridge on a regular basis and allow sightseers to take in the tranquil beauty of the lake. One of the stopping-off points is the quaint hamlet of Howtown, before reaching the popular town of Glenridding at the southern point of the lake, a favourite with walkers due to the many scenic routes in the area.

The spectacular natural scenery of this part of the Lake District means that walking is one of the most popular activities here. The view of Ullswater from Pooley Bridge is highly impressive, while the wooded fells that stretch back from the shore offer a range of secluded walks, just perfect for a peaceful afternoon strolls.

The centre of Pooley Bridge has a selection of independent shops selling gifts, local crafts and pieces of art. Pubs and cafes are also in plentiful supply here, ensuring you always have an excellent choice of places for food and drink.

For stunning scenery, tranquil lakeside villages and a peaceful atmosphere, take a look at holiday cottages in Pooley Bridge for your next break.
