The area is thought to be amongst the most beautiful in the Lakes. Once a thriving lead mining town, Glenridding is now geared mostly towards tourists, but the scenery remains unspoiled. The ‘Lady of the Lake’ dates back to 1877 and a journey down the 7.5 mile lake is a leisurely way to take in the spectacular scenery, with opportunities to explore Howtown and Pooley Bridge.

The Sailing Centre at Glenridding offer dinghies, kayaks, traditional boats and windsurfs for hire. Above the valley behind Patterdale is the famous Striding Edge, a knife edge ridge, leading onto Helvellyn and is popular among more serious walkers. For a less strenuous walk you will find Aira Force, a short drive north, which is the Lake District’s most famous waterfall. There are watersports available on the lake and the steamer is a beautiful way to enjoy the scenery.
