Ullswater offers various attractions including a trip on the lake on the old steamer, and some of Wainwright’s favourite fells including High Street, Place Fell and Helvellyn are all within easy reach. To the east there are peaceful country lanes for cycling and walking and beyond Appleby, the Pennine Hills. There are good opportunities nearby for horse riding, golf, sailing, canoeing, fishing, quad biking and clay pigeon shooting. Penrith is six miles to the north and has excellent shopping choices with supermarkets as well as an excellent local produce delicatessen, many arts and crafts shops, a cinema and a number of restaurants.
