Holiday cottages in Wales offer a fantastic mix of beautiful landscapes and vibrant cities. One day you could be enjoying the unrivalled tranquillity and expansive views of Snowdonia, and the next you could be joining the throng at Cardiff’s majestic Millennium Stadium. To borrow a well-worn phrase, Wales truly is a destination with something for everyone. The only problem with so much choice is finding the right thing for you and your fellow holidaymakers to enjoy, so we’re going to make a few recommendations for an unforgettable holiday in Wales.

Wales really is a country of highlights, with an incredible array of fantastic attractions, both natural and man-made. One of the best ways to get your bearings is to head upwards, so we’re going to recommend a trip to Snowdonia National Park first. If you’d like a bird’s eye view of your stunning surroundings there really is no place like it. The circular Precipice Walk offers a slightly challenging two-hour trek but the pay off is expansive views as far as the eye can see. Mount Snowdon is easily accessible thanks to a train ride, or a climb for more intrepid visitors. However you choose to reach it, the views from the surrounding landscape are breathtaking. Less taxing, but no less beautiful, is the Pembrokeshire Coast. The UK's only truly coastal national park offers stunning limestone cliffs, soft golden sands and cool blue waters as far as the eye can see. Wales’ industrial heritage is celebrated at the Llechwedd Slate Caverns. One of the country’s premier tourist attractions, it offers both a fascinating insight into the lives of the miners and a truly unique landscape to explore and admire. If you fancy a more vibrant holiday experience then there are few better locations than Cardiff. Like Wales itself, the capital city offers a wonderful celebration of history and a wealth of contemporary attractions, so it’s perhaps unsurprising to find out that it’s also one of the most popular destinations for those with Welsh holiday cottages.

    Situated just 5 minutes from Cardigan Bay and within easy reach to the whole of the beautiful Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire coastline and coastal walks, these three converted stone holiday cottages (refs OSB, OSC and OSC) are peacefully set on a farm with a selection of alpacas, donkeys, llamas, goats, ducks and chickens. The owners who live on the farm, which is set in 57 acres of rolling countryside, encourage the children to interact with the animals, and are also pleased to offer the use of a barbecue hut nicknamed the ‘Hobbit House’ by the family. Guests can hire it during their stay directly with the owners, subject to availability and for a small charge. The owner can also supply their own barbecue meat packs on request (charge payable). Within a 15-minute drive visitors can discover quaint New Quay, famous for the bottlenose dolphins that can often be seen from the harbour (boat trips available in season). The colourful, Georgian, harbour town of Aberaeron is just a bit further up the coast road, with its chic shops and plenty of restaurants. Antique shoppers and browsers will enjoy the nearby market town of Newcastle Emlyn, and Cenarth with its waterfalls is also close by and offers indoor swimming, coracle rides, fishing and paintballing. There are numerous attractions in the area, particularly suitable for children. Nearby is the Cardigan Island Coastal Farm Park, which is set on a headland overlooking the nature reserve of Cardigan Island, home to thousands of sea birds. At the foot of the cliffs, a colony of Atlantic grey seals can be observed in their natural habitat. Spectacular coastline and wonderful views can be savoured from the NT-managed Penbryn Bay and a visit to NT Cilgerran Castle can also be enjoyed. Only the ruins remain of this striking 13th-century castle, whose vantage point overlooks the wonderful Teifi Gorge. Also nearby is the town of Cardigan with its restored medieval castle. The Teifi Valley Railway is another experience for the visitor, a 2 mile journey offers wonderful views of the valley and countryside. Golf and horse riding can also be found locally. Shops 1 mile.

Set in an unrivalled location making these properties the perfect base for a peaceful and relaxing holiday and to explore this beautiful unspoilt area of Wales at any time of year. There is a wide, level walk (suitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs) following the river, that will bring you into the beautiful Georgian harbour town of Aberaeron, just over two miles away, where coloured houses can be seen all around, and the harbour is the perfect place for a coffee or an ice cream. There are lots of unique shops and eateries so you will be spoiled for choice. Throughout the summer the town is alive with a variety of events including the festival of Welsh cobs, seafood festival and carnival.

    Venturing slightly further afield you can visit quaint New Quay where dolphins can often be spotted, Aberystwyth, with its electric cliff railway, castle, pier and promenade or catch the steam train to Devils Bridge and waterfalls. Walkers will appreciate the extensive walks along the miles of breathtaking heritage coastline path, where you can absorb the beauty of this area and appreciate the wildlife, scenery and stunning beaches and coves.
