Cirencester Cottages
On the lower slopes of the beautiful Cotswold Hills sits the historic market town of Cirencester. Dubbed the ‘Capital of the Cotswolds’, it’s the largest town in the Cotswold District and provides the ideal base, with plenty to occupy visitors’ right on the doorstep of our Cotswold cottages in the surrounding area.

Cirencester has its roots in Roman times, when it was known as Corinium, and an extensive collection of Roman artefacts and information about Cirencester of old can be found in the town’s Corinium Museum.

Cirencester has a lot to offer the discerning visitor, whether you are looking for history, places to relax or places to get active then there is something here for you. The town is awash with history; explore the merchants’ tombs of the Church of St. John the Baptist, wander around the Catholic Church of St. Peter’s, founded in 1895, or visit Market Square and see one of the oldest Baptist churches in England.

Abbey House was a country house built on the site of the former Cirencester Abbey after the Reformation. There are now beautiful grounds, a lake and woodland to explore, as well as some impressive remnants from the 1500s.

Travel further back in time with a visit to Chedworth Roman Villa, the intriguing ruins of one of the largest Roman villas in the country, which in it’s heyday, was home to some of the richest people in the country.

Cirencester provides outdoor activities aplenty with Waterland and Cotswold Water Park offering a range of exciting and relaxing activities, from bushcraft to birdwatching, paintballing to picnicking, windsurfing to walking and everything in between.

With so much to see and explore, you are bound to fall in love with Cirencester. So give your heart to the heart of the Cotswolds and search Cirencester holiday cottages today.
