Malton

In the heart of Ryedale, North Yorkshire, lies the popular market town of Malton, an historic destination that has a rich cultural heritage, offers a wide range of outdoor activities and is currently establishing itself as ''Yorkshire''s Food Capital’ due to its food festivals and markets.

Malton is a town with a particular focus on food and the historical marketplace is also a popular meeting place. Coffee bars, cafes and bistros also line the streets nearby and complement the many traditional public houses in town.

A cottage here not only provides the ideal destination for a relaxing, culinary experience, but also a holiday with plenty for people of all ages to enjoy, whether you choose to explore the markets, immerse yourself in the rich heritage or enjoy some of the many outdoor activities and attractions on offer.

Close by are some lovely Grade II listed buildings, a visit to Scampston Hall and a stroll around its Serpentine Park is recommended, as are a viewing of the Kirkham Priory ruins that date back to the 1120s. For an insight into more contemporary history visit the Eden Camp Modern History Museum which occupies a defunct World War II POW camp where there are 33 huts filled with interesting artefacts and information. Youngsters will love Flamingo Land, a theme park, resort and zoo that attracts thousands of visitors every year.

If you enjoy the outdoors, you will be spoilt for choice with the sweeping Yorkshire Wolds and breath-taking vistas easily accessible from the town. Hiking and horse trails are in abundance and cyclist wills enjoy the challenge of the hilly moors.

Discover a market town with a difference and search for Malton holiday cottages for an unforgettable Yorkshire experience.
