Why Us?

Description

Amidst a varied and dramatic landscape lies Glendaruel Lodge, offering a relaxing and idyllic base.

Surrounded by 150 acres of glorious wooded grounds, abundant in wildlife. Amidst a glorious landscape of unspoilt wooded glens, fragmented coastline, stunning sea lochs and breathtaking bays, the delightful cottages at Home Farm nestle in the peaceful wooded valley of the River Ruel. The steading and cottages, formerly the home farm to the estate, have been lovingly restored and are very comfortably furnished in contemporary Scottish style. Their spacious courtyard setting affords each of them a sense of privacy and they all boast access to 150 acres of wooded grounds, abundant in bird and wildlife, with free trout and salmon fishing on the Ruel beat owned by Home Farms - the fishing hut provides an ideal picnic spot. One of the most admired views in Scotland, The Kyles of Bute, awaits discovery just 6 miles away, as do the tranquil village of Tighnabruaich’s lovely natural bays, sandy beach, shops, restaurants and 9 hole golf course. Colintraive, 9 miles, offers a pub serving good food and there is a summer shop (limited opening hours) adjacent to Home Farm. Beach 5 miles. Shop 13 miles, pub and restaurant 7 miles.

Ground Floor:
Living/dining room:

Couldn't be a nicer base to share with friends. Had a lovely week and caretakers very helpful. The waterfall opposite and walks nearby were super. The games room a lovely addition. The road to and from a bit bumpy on the car, the rain had created some large potholes but take it slow and you're fine.

We were so impressed with this beautiful lodge and loved our week spent there. It's off the beaten track and no shops for miles but we knew this when we booked. The games room in the Cow Shed was well used. All in all an absolutely fantastic place to get away from the stresses and strains of normal life. We loved it so much, we booked for next year too.

The house is absolutely beautiful and luxurious. It is set in peaceful, picturesque countryside where you can walk and enjoy the views. It’s lovely to return to the house after a day out walking. It’s so cosy, comfortable and welcoming. There are no amenities within walking distance but you can drive to Tighnabruaich in 20-25 minutes to enjoy a coffee, a meal or to buy supplies.

We’ve stayed in 3 units at Home Farm estate on 5 or 6 occasions and this one is great. 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, and room for a dog. 10* all the way. The downstairs bedroom is great if grandparents or sullen teens are going as it is a bit separate and allows them some space.

Glendaruel Lodge is an absolute delight - a beautiful, spacious home from home (well, better - I could happily have moved in for good!). It was immaculately clean, stylish and very nicely furnished with plentiful comfortable sofas and chairs, and huge comfy beds. Even had Sky+ so we could watch and record films and football! Everything about the property is great, including the games room which we made use of several times on the rainy days (of which there were unfortunately several during our week). On reading other reviews before we went, I tried to find out where previous guests had visited and what they'd done, for inspiration, so here are my suggestions: Eating out: The Colintraive Inn was very nice, very friendly staff and good food, reasonably priced. We visited The Oystercatcher pub on a sunny morning - the beach is lovely, as are the coffees and homemade cakes from the pub - highly recommended! We didn't have a meal here but saw others eating and the food looked great. Again, very friendly bar staff made us very welcome. Loch Fyne Oyster Bar - this is a 40 minute drive to the top of Loch Fyne, but well worth it - delicious food in a gorgeous environment, really liked this. Things to do/places to visit: Portavadie Marina Spa - the swimming pool(s!) - fantastic! I hadn't realised this is open to non-residents - it was quite expensive but worth every penny (£12 adults, £5 kids 5-15, under 5 free) - I don't think there was any time limit so you could stay all day if you wanted. Amazing views, wonderful pools, toddler pool, sauna, jacuzzi pools and outdoor infinity pool overlooking Loch Fyne - just brilliant, even on a rainy day (and they provide you with a large towel each so you don't need to take your own). Nice cafe overlooking the pools, but we ate at the Lodge Kitchen in the hotel complex - not very impressed, weird empty place and food not great. Inveraray - nice little village to visit, picturesque - include on the same trip as going to the oyster bar at the top of the loch. Dunoon - pleasant seaside town (a good 30+ minute drive from cottage) with some interesting shops (if you're after Dunoon bone china mug seconds go to 'Muddyboots & Myrtle' on the main drag). Morrisons and Co-op here so stock up on your groceries while you're visiting. Nice views and seafront drive around by Holy Loch. Tighnabruaich - little seaside village (Kyle-side!) with amazing viewpoint on the way - make sure you stop and take photos! The only real downside to the cottage was that it really is miles from anywhere - which is great (peaceful, no phone signal so no calls or work emails!) until you need a loaf of bread and pint of milk! Nearest shop is a little Premier store in Tighnabruaich 20 mins away, otherwise you need to plan a trip to Dunoon. So all in all, Glendaruel Lodge is a fabulous, welcoming, comfortable place to stay - I am missing it already!

We had a fantastic stay at Glendaruel Lodge. Decorated and furnished to a very high standard, all rooms of pretty much equal size. En suite per room is fantastic! The outside area is lovely- but by no means private. Shared with 2 other houses. We didn’t feel hugely comfortable bbq-big outside in case we disturbed others. We had pets and a toddler with us... the house worked perfectly for them and us, but not secure for either dogs or children. It wasn’t a huge issue- but it would had made our stay easier if the small court yard was enclosed. That said, we really did love our stay!
