Grey Craig is a lovely modern light and airy cottage. It is situated on the edge of a farm overlooking the loch and farmland. Located on an award-winning working farm, there is plenty to do, with farm tours of the owners’ 300-acre farm, featuring Highland ponies, Highland cattle, sheep, pigs and chickens, guided walks, (with stabling available should you wish to bring your own horse), bat walks and badger watching. The farm has won the RSPB Nature of Farming awards in Scotland for farming and conservation. The owners are happy to talk about the diversity of the farm and how the different wildlife habitats have encouraged the birdlife in the area, and also where photographers can get the best shots! This is a working farm where nature take high priority offering guided walks, farm tours and peace and quiet and a place where nature watchers, photographers, artists would be in heaven. It is also surrounded by natural woods with lovely walks. There is a free children’s play area complete with a petting zoo, with miniature animals and picnic tables.
Grey Craig Cottage is the ideal cottage for a romantic break. Set on the edge of the farm overlooking the farm’s wildlife and conservation area, this cottage gives you the feeling of being right amongst nature. On a summer’s day, you can open the patio doors to the large gardens and indulge yourself in the sights and sounds of the area. The master bedroom has a French chateau style, with a large post bed. The owners also provide a small welcome pack with teas, coffees, homemade shortbread and milk. On a winter’s evening, there is a wood burner to cuddle up in front of. Being on the farm, guests can take the opportunity to celebrate Annan’s fantastic tradition every July, where around 100 horses ride behind a group of specially selected riders who carry the flag. The ride comes through the farm and the main riders stop for refreshments.
Only 5 minutes to the motorway, 10 minutes to Gretna Green, 15 minutes to Powfoot Beach, 25 minutes to Carlisle and on to the Lake District or Newcastle, the location couldn’t be better. There is plenty of interesting history in Dumfries and Galloway, including the Old Blacksmith’s Shop at Gretna, famous for its weddings since 1754, the famous poet Robert Burns’ House, and Sweetheart Abbey. Plenty of local attractions are close by, as well as main transport links for exploring further afield.
Grey Craig can be booked together with Beckhead (CC537271) and Williamwood (CC537274) to accommodate up to 15 guests.
