Before booking the cottage I read several of the reviews, some of which were far from flattering and I very nearly didn't book it. I'm glad I did, as its a beautiful spot and definitely worth the visit. Sadly, the cottage isn't very clean. When you first arrive it looks great, very bright and clean, sadly its not very clean at all. Lots of dust under the carpets and the carpets themselves didn't appear to have been vacuumed and had bits of crisp sitting in the carpet pile. The shower didn't drain properly and I did think it was going to overflow onto the bathroom floor. Fortunately that didn't happen.. There were several pots and pans that looked like they'd never been washed and the oven was dirty, burnt on food and fat. There was no wifi at all when trying to sign in got a message saying "enter code for Esk cottages" but I could find no information as to where this was. This is a very negative review but I think the owners should be made aware of some of the issues which seem to have been mentioned many times but remain unresolved. Its a great shame really because its such a beautiful place with a lot to do and see. I would book again but would want some assurance that the problems mentioned had been dealt with.

We had a very quiet and relaxing holiday, with just the sounds of bird song and the River Esk flowing past. The cottage was cosy and comfortable. It was easy to pick up our food supplies in Whitby. The Horseshoe Hotel provided tasty, home-made meals and the Postgate Inn had a pleasant beer garden. There was plenty to see and do nearby, amid the outstanding scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in Esk Cottage.

Traditional cottage in good location, peaceful when neighbouring cottages not occupied, small bathroom, bed mattress needs changing as not very comfortable. Lovely cottage garden. Could do with a few extra dinner plates and bowls as we had to keep washing up those few available. Good selection of tv channels and wifi signal very good. One heater has no power and the other one is quite tricky to set up but once that's done it works well. Steep staircase wasn't a problem. There is no allocated parking as advised in the instructions, rather it is first come first serve. It was quite tricky to find the cottage on arrival, better instructions would help.

A lovely cosy cottage on the banks of the River Esk in a great location for the North Yorkshire Moors and all its attractions. The cottage itself was well equipped if we wanted to stay at home while the village of Egton Bridge had a couple of pubs to visit in the evening if we fancied a night out. All in all a value for money cottage

This could be a beautiful cottage, but is in great need of TLC. It needs a really good clean, the mattress needs replacing (my husband and I still have back ache ), the shower was dirty and blocked (full of hairs )which I had to clean. The springs in the sofa had gone so not comfortable.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your feedback and comments which are a valued source of information to assure we maintain a quality rental property. Subsequent to the comments, I visited Esk Cottage on an unannounced visit after the clean and turn-round between clients and felt the property was clean and tidy. I suggested to the management team that a better, more generous, provision of basic consumables, such as kitchen roll and toilet paper, are kept in stock and this has been addressed. Both I, and a representative from the management company checked the mattresses and settee and feel they are quite suitable; the firmness of both these furnishings are very subjective. We regularly monitor such aspects as part of the quality assurance process.

The most picturesque little cottage with everything in and around it anyone could want for a relaxing holiday. We enjoyed it so much that we are hoping to go back. We've even recommend it to friends.
