With The Minories gallery playing host to many exhibitions by the area''s local artists, Colchester Arts Centre at the former St-Mary-at-the-Walls church is a multi-function arts venue and Colchester also houses both the Mercury and Headgate Theatres, the former is acclaimed as one of the region’s best repertory theatres.
A great day out for all of the family can be found on the edge of the town at Colchester Zoo. Colchester Zoo houses elephants, big cats, monkeys and giant tortoises, as well as many rare and endangered species. The sixty acre site has much to see and explore and provides a fabulous family fun day.
