Welcome Cottages

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Get a taste for fine country living at Pine, a single-storey holiday cottage that’s the perfect spot for families of four.

Withy Grove Farm is situated on the banks of the River Huntspill, in a quiet corner of Somerset. This busy working farm is a paradise for youngsters, where they can get a hands-on experience of life in the country.

The farm is home to a whole host of animals, which include chickens, cows, horses, over 100 breeding ewes, a friendly Shetland pony named Alf, and two adorable pygmy goats named Fudge and Snowy. The collection comprises five charming holiday homes (UKC534, UKC535, UKC536, UKC537 and UKC538) set around a courtyard and patio area, with the owners living on-site. These single-storey cottages all have access to the outdoor heated swimming pool and lush surrounding gardens, as well as a skittle alley and a well-equipped games room, complete with table tennis, a pool table and table football. For adults looking for a bit of company in the evening, there’s an on-site licensed bar/lounge that throws weekly quizzes and games of bingo. There’s also Somerset Evening once a week that’s ideal for trying Somerset cider and cheese over a game of skittles.

From the splendours found in the city of Bath to the wide expanses of Exmoor, the farm provides a convenient base for touring all the area’s attractions. There’s the enchanting village of Glastonbury, famous for its tor; the beautiful city of Wells with its stunning cathedral; and the world-famous Cheddar Gorge and Caves all within easy reach of the property. For those of you who love to shop, Clarks Village is a must-visit: a major factory outlet in the nearby village of Street. The area is renowned for its coarse fishing, and licences can be obtained locally to fish in the Huntspill, Brue, King’s and Axe rivers as well as Sedgemoor Drain and the South Drain. There’s so much to see and do at Withy Grove Farm, it’s sure to be a holiday to remember! Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

The cottage was very basic, and in need of updating. There were no cleaning utensils, (no washing up brush, cloth etc) No broom that we could find, no hand soap, no towels. Although it was "dog friendly" the farm collie dog was quite a bully and kept trying to bite our little dog on his winky (making him yelp). Two small gates either side of the little garden area by the cottages would have both provided protection from the farm dog, but also given our dog a secure place to play with the dog from the cottage next door, without worries about him going off exploring! As it was, he spent the whole time we were there, on a lead- which is not something he usually does. There was no information regarding the "Farm Shop" (no info about when it was open what you could buy there, or prices, and not always manned). We were doing a 6 mile round trip to the nearest garage to get milk etc. The accommodation was clean, the beds were comfortable and the pool was amazing. Wendy was friendly, but her husband shouted at me when I was in the pool after 10 (it hadn't been a problem for my son and his friend the night before, trying to cool down before bed- it was during the heatwave and the accommodation was really hot at night). When I said I was sorry and I would get out he shouted "and I should think so". That told me! A middle aged mother spoken to like a child!

Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments and we will give them consideration. We do not provide towels as we were advised to only put in a hand towel and guests usually like to use their own toiletries when they come. Although the weather was hot we were worried about safety with swimming in the dark after 10pm as the pool area was not lit and also for consideration of other guests. We will try and address your feedback for the future.

We had a lovely stay at Pine Cottage and it was perfect for our needs with one infant and a toddler in our party. The nearby town of Weston Super Mare was a particular favourite. Our hosts were lovely and staying on a working farm is quite a unique experience.

Lovely little cottage, compact but big enough for four. Good location for seaside and attractions inland. Being on a working farm was great, our daughter got stuck in helping with the lambs. Lots of great pubs in the main village, would recommend the pimpernell.
