Grade I listed, the house has been owned by the same family for 150 years and has a long and fascinating history. An addition to the original building was made in the 16th century and the first restoration was made in 1861, after it was bought by the merchant and philanthropist George Moore. Whitehall Pele Tower has all the benefits of modern living, whilst retaining its original character. The house stands in an acre of grounds containing the picturesque ruins of a Victorian manor house. Two of the larger lawns can be used for family games. Inside the house are spacious rooms, including a first floor sitting room with enormous Tudor stone fireplace, looking out over tranquil pastureland. The grounds are full of birdlife and the scenery of the Northern Lakes is close at hand. Bassenthwaite Lake, 7 miles. Whinlatter Visitor Centre, Altura Mountain Bike Trail and Go Ape, 17 miles. Very nice place, comfy and modern, countryside surrounding but only 10 mins drive to nearest village and shops. Highly recommended.

Our family of 6 adults, 2 children and a dog had a fantastic Christmas at Whitehall. The owners contacted us to arrange a meet up with the caretaker in good time and they were generally really helpful. The castle itself was delightful, the living area was exceptionally cosy with a lovely grand fireplace. The bedrooms were comfortable and the kitchen was equipped very well. The castle felt warm, clean and a lovely place to relax. The games room was fun and exploring the castle gardens and ruins was great for the children. Overall we had a wonderful stay!

This was our second visit to Whitehall (we spent Christmas there last year) and we celebrated Halloween this year. An amazing escape from our busy lives, Whitehall offers a warm, spacious and comfortable stay where we can have genuine family time. We love the kitchen and living room. The fire has proved a brilliant plus too. Even watching the genuine VHS videos (‘Chicken Run’ and ‘Lord of the Rings’ this time) is a bit magical really. We have family in Carlisle so it’s an excellent base from which to catch up with everyone.

Just back from Whitehall and would definitely go back. Set in a lovely location and lots to do. The house had a games room which our kids loved and lots of land to explore day and night( with torches). The house is huge and we kept calling it the castle! Lol Thankyou so much.

A brilliant weekend for a family celebration, a really well equipped kitchen meant catering was so easy. We loved the grounds and our dog had fun exploring. There was lots of room and the evenings were enjoyed in front of a roaring fire. We had some lovely walks and visits to nearby towns. It is a great property for groups or families we had a wonderful time.

What can I say about Whitehall-Pele Tower . . . The internet photos don’t do it justice ! first impressions on approaching Whitehall is, wow, it’s a castle ! It’s a very large house with everything you could possibly need for a home from home holiday. The view from the windows are wonderful and an explore around the old Manor House ruins is very interesting. Only one slight negative, there wasn’t a BBQ, but I do understand it’s a bit of a pain when guests don’t clean it out after use. We would definitely love to come back for another visit.

Whitehall is an impressive and spacious building in an interesting part of Cumbria. It is located in a quiet spot and is surrounded by a nice garden. The property is quite a distance from local amenities and it lacked a couple of things that one tends to get in holiday cottages (e.g. welcome pack, hair dryer). The equipment was generally very good and the cottage was comfortable, but there were one or two items that needed repair, such as the doors on the older shower. Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay despite the poor early September weather.

Fabulous house in a fabulous setting. The grounds are such a joy; from a gentle stroll around the ruins to playing rounders in the field - space for everyone to enjoy. Kitchen was well equipped with pretty much everything you could want. Cleaning materials are supplied as is washing powder etc. The only minor gripe I have is the beds in the double rooms are quite small. They are standard double size which when your used to a king did feel a bit restricted. That maybe just me. We had a power cut but to make sure it was the power co and not the house the caretaker’s dad came out. Having confirmed it was power co Nicola was straight on asking if there was anything she could do to make it more bearable. She responded to queries very quickly too - great service! The owner refunded the security deposit very quickly too no messing about. Would definitely book again but sadly all the dates we can do for 2020 are already booked. The guest book shows people go back time and time again. We will be too. Attention to detail is great as there is a book all about the history of the house which is fascinating and there is even a dressing up trunk in the lounge for adults to do a murder mystery night!!

Loved our stay at Whitehall Pele Tower! Perfectly positioned to visit the Lakes on a daily basis to take part in various activities. The house was great fun for our kids and their friends, with a games rooms and discovering a huge selection of dressing up clothes! We only wished that we were there for longer.
