The surrounding area is full of places worth exploring at your own pace. Powis Castle is close by, its distinctive red stone rising above well-kept gardens and views across the valley. Attingham Park offers wide green spaces, riverside walks and plenty of wildlife, while smaller nature reserves and villages sit scattered around the borderlands. Rowton Castle adds a little history to the mix, standing quietly among the trees.
If you enjoy stretching your legs, Rodney’s Pillar can be seen from the site and rewards its climb with far-reaching views across Wales and Shropshire. Cycle Route 81 passes the camp site, giving cyclists of any ability an easy way to explore the countryside without busy roads.
You’re around 25 minutes from Shrewsbury, where independent shops, medieval buildings and riverside paths make for an unhurried day out. Welshpool, just 16 minutes away, is another good stop for castle visits, gardens and surrounding hills.
Evenings back at The Orchard Pod are often quiet and unhurried. You might sit by the fire for a while, soak in the hot tub or simply watch the stars appear in a sky free from streetlights. The family who lives on the site are close at hand and always happy to suggest places to eat, walk and explore, leaving you to enjoy your break at your own pace.
