Yorkshire Cottages

The Yorkshire Regional Specialist -Fantastic properties in the most favourable locations. No one knows Yorkshire better!

Description

Set in a peaceful location, yet within easy reach of the spa town of Harrogate and the historic city of York.

This barn conversion is tucked away in a hidden valley within the Yorkshire Dales National Park, yet just 3 miles away from the bustling village of Grassington, which is well served with pubs, restaurants and individual country shops. The village also hosts the Grassington Festival, where well known stars perform, or near Christmas it holds the Dickensian Festival to really get people in a festive mood. Tom’s Barn has been lovingly restored and stands proudly on a hill, and the living room is upstairs to take advantage of the glorious views, both inside, with fantastic Cruck beams, and outside, over the hills to the moors above Hebden Gill.

This is a peaceful location ideal for getting away from the bustle of everyday life, with fantastic walks direct from the door, and for cyclists this is Tour De France country. The grounds lead on to ’fairyland’, a special area of oak and ash trees, bluebells and foxgloves, a beautiful wild and dramatic place.

For shopaholics, the famous spa town of Harrogate is a half an hour drive away. Here, you will find the normal high street shops and also high end fashion, or take time to have a traditional afternoon tea at Betty’s tea room. A little further afield lies the historic city of York with it’s Minster, museums and quaint cobbled streets. Shops and restaurant 3 miles, pub ½ mile.

Quiet location on steep hillside with enclosed garden, surrounded by woodland and pasture. Great views up to open fells - abundant wildlife to watch. Fantastic quality accommodation with high spec kitchen and tech throughout. Gorgeous beams in open plan living area on upper floor - made the most of the views. Enormous bed in main bedroom, large bathroom with washer dryer & underfloor heating and light-filled twin all on ground floor. Remote location although there were 4 more holiday cottages just below in the valley. Excellent local pub serving delicious food. All amenities in nearby Grassington. Lots of local walks to enjoy. Would definitely recommend.

Idyllic, quiet and fairly remote location..perfect for relaxing and recuperating from bustle of everyday life. Lots of beautiful walks right from the door. If you have young children stream for fishing/paddling a minutes walk away.. (my best memories of my childhood) Although we are all fairly active we were all content to pretty much cocoon ourselves from the world, although we did venture out to nearby villages etc. Son's (17 and 21) relaxed and enjoyed the freedom of not being permanently attached to their gadgets, although WiFi/TV is good for when they did want to. Dog loved the freedom of large, exciting enclosed garden and wonderful walks Fabulous family get together!!

It seems that we were only the second group to stay at Tom's Barn, and in our case for only two nights. That said, it was so well appointed fresh and well presented, I rate it as possibly the best self catering place I have stayed at in about 50 years of cottage visits. My value for money rating is affected by the fact that we were staying for only two nights and so it seemed expensive for such a short stay. The location is quite magical. Unfortunately our visit was really as part of a business visit to the area so we did not have time to explore the paths, tracks, trails and lead mining remains in and around the valley. We had with us a very nervous puppy that was often difficult with other dogs and with people so we were unable to visit the local pub or coffee shop/tearoom. We would both be very keen to return, for longer, to enjoy the location more extensively.
