Description

Tranquil rolling countryside surrounds this converted barn/stables and coach house, and has the advantage of ten en-suite bedrooms and a large sun room.

High in the hamlet of Riber in the shadow of the castle just outside Matlock and surrounded by tranquil rolling countryside, The Stables is situated in the grounds of the privately-owned Riber Hall, and is inclusive of a beautiful garden with heated furnished terrace. There are ten en-suite bedrooms of 17 to 40 square metres, equipped with Sony LCD TVs, dining areas and micro kitchens with combination microwave oven, fridge, kettle/toaster and Wedgwood china. The communal kitchen/dining room and living area/conservatory, which is accessed via an uncovered walkway in the garden, provides the perfect place to get all your party together for dining, socialising and relaxing. For days out there is plenty to do and see. In the neighbouring village of Holloway is the former home of Florence Nightingale whilst down in the Derwent Valley at Cromford, the World Heritage Site boasts the world’s first water-powered cotton-spinning factories, built by Sir Richard Arkwright and Jedediah Strutt. Just under four miles is the delightful town of Matlock Bath boasting smart riverside cafés and bars slotted in between more traditional pubs, restaurants, tea shops, ice-cream parlours and plenty of restaurants. Here visitors can also sample a ride to The Heights of Abraham by cable car and admire the views of ‘Little Switzerland’ as Byron once described this area. For the more inquisitive visit the Mining Museum for a fascinating look into the area’s past. Shop 2 miles, pub 11/2 miles.

It was a beautiful cottage, absolutely the right size for our group of 20. The furnishings and cutlery was very vintage. We loved the conservatory and the garden - plenty of space for gathering together. The individual rooms had well equipped kitchen and toilets were clean. There was a power cut for about 4 hours in the night in the village - something they couldn’t have done anything about though. The WiFi signal strength was pretty poor and should be improved.

The kitchen area is detached from the cottage. We had two elderly mothers who found it difficult to go to kitchen. No toilets near kitchen made it difficult. All Rooms had bathroom which was nice

Fantastic! We rented the whole thing for a weekend for a girls reunion and it was fabulous. Each bedroom is self contained and has character. The largest is to die for! Very private, great communal areas and gardens. I hope to go back one day!

This was a fantastic place to stay, particularly with the added touches of the robes and slippers and all the beautiful four poster beds with beautiful bed linen. Really tastefully done out. The only draw back is the settees in the conservatory and not that comfortable. All in all a most enjoyable stay and very impressed with the building.
