Perched right on the shore of a beautiful lake known as Sweethope Lough, extensively renowned for its trout and fly fishing, nestles this pair of "single storey crofts", which provide charming self catering holiday cottages in an idyllic setting. Built with traditional Northumbrian stone this pair of cottages offers a truly rural hideaway with a unique view. Surrounded by miles of open countryside and woodland the properties are positioned on the exclusive Ray  Estate. Formerly owned by the great inventor and industrialist "Newcastle" born "Charles Parsons", the Estate was purchased by Viscount Devonport’s family in 1954. The Estate has since been painstakingly restored and developed over the years by Lord Devonport.
Sweethope Loughs are consisting of two Loughs, Little Lough being 12 acres and the Great Lough and impressive 140 acres. Sweethope Crofts are positioned on the southern edge of the Little Lough.
The accommodation within each cottage is conveniently all on ground floor level and although they can be booked independently, an interlinking door can be unlocked to accommodate the gathering of families and friends. The living space is open plan with exposed beams to retain their character. Relax in front of the cosy wood burner and watch the flames dance after a day exploring the flora and fauna in the surrounding area. The cottages are situated in a tranquil and secluded location on the edge of Sweethope Lough, but they are within a few hundred metres of the Sweethope activities, which include fishing and boating, so areas near the cottages can be busy, particularly in the summer months. Enjoy gazing at the stars, study the wildlife and watch the birds that regularly visit Sweethope Crofts.

Lovely, charming cottage, where I felt safe staying by myself and didn't mind there was no internet or mobile signal. There are new beds since the photos were taken, which are comfortable. The log burner was great and easy to light, with plenty of wood, though I had problems working the night storage heater (more likely operator error). Lovely light bright main room with comfy chairs and sofa. I had friends round and we managed to have a Sunday lunch for 4 people. The best welcome basket ever and friendly guy looking after everything, which nothing was a both. Can't wait to go again.

The cottage is excellent and the location perfect if you want to be a little off the beaten track. Clean, well equipped, comfortable and peaceful. Fishing and boats right on the doorstep and very friendly folk looking after it all.
