Description

Located in Looe, this property is situated in the owners’ landscaped grounds, in a secluded seaside location.

This collection of 17th century stone, semi-detached barn conversions (refs 30378, 30379, 30380, 30381, 30382 and 30383), located in the owners’ grounds, sit in a secluded spot, just yards away from the South West Coastal Path and the picturesque Millendreath Beach, which is close to Looe on Cornwall’s beautiful south coast. Millendreath has a licenced café providing local ales and home-cooked food right on the sand. Just a mile away is another beach at Seaton, with a local pub and beach bar – another great day out for families and couples alike. The resort of Looe is home to famous fish markets which are supplied daily with fresh fish from the day boats that leave the quaint working harbour. Walk the lanes that lead to the harbour and wide expanse of golden sand, buy some fresh seafood for a special meal or visit one of the multitudes of restaurants that the town offers. The coastal path passes close to the property and provides beautiful walks and views along the dramatic coastline. Polperro is a quaint, historic fishing village, just a short distance away from the coast. There are numerous cycle routes around the area and many surfing spots along the coast. Various tourist attractions are nearby, including The Monkey Sanctuary, many National Trust houses and gardens along with golf courses to visit. The Adrenalin Quarry is a must for the adventurous and it is only a short drive away. The Eden Project is also within easy driving distance and it provides an exceptional day out, as does Padstow, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Fowey, a picturesque seafaring town providing sailing, kayaking and pleasure trips along the River Fowey. Deep sea fishing and other water sports can all be enjoyed in Looe, along with woodland and coastal walks nearby. To the east of the town is the historic city of Plymouth, with its National Marine Aquarium, theatres, cinemas, bowling and shopping, which can be reached from the historic village of Kingsand, right into Barbican, while to the west is Fowey, home to the royal sailing regatta and many galleries, shops and restaurants. Cycling, horse riding, golf and go-karting are all nearby. Each property has an allocated parking space, plus there is parking for a further 3 cars if needed. We have had a very stressful time and wanted to go on holiday - relax and not have to worry about anything - at the Smithy, we had worries that I would not have anticipated. There is a huge difference between dog friendly and dog tolerant - the Smithy was definitely tolerant, this is the fifth place we have taken our dog to within the last year, and the first where I have felt worried that he may be trouble - such as taking a whizz in the garden. (the last cottage we stayed in, near Ipswich, the owner threw the keys at us and said "make yourself at home" and later sent us a lovely postcard thanking us for taking such good care of the cottage). Electricity - this is on a coin meter (we had not seen one of these for about 30 years!), the owner showing us round asked us to watch the meter and let her know when it needed topped up and when asked, did respond quickly, but I can't understand why the meter was not set so that you could use as much electricity as you needed (which is possible), as it was a real pain having to check to ensure that we did not run out of electricity - not conducive to a worry free holiday. The hot water is on a separate system, so every day you need to remember to go down stairs and switch it on, otherwise, no hot water for at least 20 mins... The smell of damp downstairs - there was a dehumidifier, (using up electricity!), which we had to use after 2 days, when the smell of damp was overwhelming and you could feel the damp through your socks when walking on the carpet downstairs. Lovely remote situation, and very pretty to look at, but we prefer less regimented accommodation.

Not a bad cottage but some dog restrictions are in place that I was not aware of, but having said that the woman was very accommodating when we had an emergency
