A short drive down the coast is Harlech with its imposing UNESCO World Heritage castle, an extensive beach and you can even have a self-guided tour in the slate caverns, the caverns have stayed as the miners left them, built over 100 years ago you can even see the scars in the rock made by the miner’s tools.
