Kirby-le-Soken is a traditional English village, known for its friendly atmosphere, traditional pubs, and scenic surroundings. There are well maintained footpaths from the village leading to the sea wall and glorious views across the backwaters with the majestic cranes of Felixstowe in the distance. Just a short drive away are the charming seaside towns of Frinton on-Sea and Walton-on-the-Naze. Frinton offers a nostalgic escape with its independent shops, restaurants, golf, cricket and tennis clubs, and beautiful sandy beaches; from there, you can stroll along the sea wall to Walton-on the-Naze, home to classic seaside amusements, miles of sandy shoreline, and family favourites like Pirate Pete’s.
Nature lovers will enjoy strolling on the cliff top at The Naze and searching for fossils on the beach below. Nearby Hamford Water National Nature Reserve, a haven for walkers and birdwatchers alike. A trip on the backwaters to the creeks which are home to colonies of both grey and common seals never cease to thrill visitors. In the opposite direction you can stroll from Frinton to Holland Haven Nature Reserve. A trip to Colchester—the oldest recorded town in Britain (now a city)—is just a short drive away. Explore the historic Colchester Castle and Roman walls, visit a variety of museums, enjoy great shopping, or relax in the town’s many restaurants, bars, and spa facilities. The Mercury Theatre offers a lively
programme of shows for all ages, and Colchester Zoo is a must-visit with over 150 species set across 60 acres of beautiful parkland.
For garden enthusiasts, a visit to Beth Chatto’s Gardens is highly recommended—an inspiring space with a delightful tea room and well-stocked plant shop. Nearer to home is Parker’s Garden Company encompassing the nursery, gift shop, food hall and tea rooms.
Both Frinton on Sea and Walton on the Naze have mainline station connections to Clacton on Sea, Colchester and London
