A large detached mansion with open fire and cinema room. Ideal for large gatherings and special occasions. Wonderful views towards the coastline.

Noddfa comes into view standing proudly above the main road into Harlech, its arched paned windows, grand stone front and bell tower gazing out from behind a wall of evergreen. After making your way up through a grassy garden freckled with mature trees, you can sit beneath the parasol and awe at the terrain as it rolls down from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Harlech Castle, over the links of Royal St David’s Golf Course to the sea and mountains in the distance.

Once you’ve stepped into the hallway, you’re hit by an immediate and almost tangible sense of history. The current detached mansion stretches back some 250 years, when it was still under protection from the castle garrison. The façade as you see it today was added by Samuel Holland MP in 1850, and a strong Victorian character still abounds throughout, supported by antiques and period furniture.

The living room boasts a bright and homely social space with plenty of light and a corner sofa facing the TV. The dining table can seat all 20 guests, and after a hearty meal of local delicacies, kids can grab some popcorn and head to the cinema room for an evening’s wild entertainment on the big screen, leaving you free to chit-chat over a glass of whiskey or wine.

Set on a rich red carpet, the intimate living room sees Chesterfield armchairs and sofas huddling round an inglenook open fireplace. A real battle of intellect, games of chess between husband and wife or siblings can often run long into the night, when the fire is nothing more than glowing embers. Upstairs, all bedrooms have a unique character as compelling and unique as the last, each with their own en-suite. High ceilings, dark wooden furniture and chandeliers support the splendour of this grand old house – after a few days, you may find yourselves imagining life as it were back in the 19th century.

Along with its magnificent castle, the coastal town of Harlech boasts a fantastic sandy beach, a broad range of shops and many fine restaurants. Avid walkers will likely want to conquer Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, and for more leisurely holidaymakers, there’s the Ffestiniog Railway for a romantic steam train ride through some of Wales’ most evocative scenery.

    Great location for a three generation family holiday with 8 en suite bedrooms so plenty of room for kids to share and parents to chill. Close to local railway with a 2 hour service in both directions and a short (but steep) walk up into the villager of Harlech given that you have got to expect a few hills in Snowdonia haven’t you? Lovely kitchen with loads of gear for cooking family meals and a smashing dining room with enough room for us all to eat together at the dining table. Welcome pack when we got there was excellent with a large super cake to enjoy with tea -Thank you Linda! We had February half term and given time of year were very fortunate wit weather so had a excellent week with plenty to do locally to visit or for children’s activities; ours especially enjoyed the underground trampolining at Blaenau Festtiniog slate mines. Not specific to the Noddfa but we had a really good meal one evening at the Y Branwen next to Noddfa and would also recommend there as well.

    The house was clean and warm and very spacious for our new year celebration and husbands 70 th birthday. We were met by the friendly owners and they left us a lovely hamper plus the lovely Christmas decorations. The house is well equipped with everything we could have needed we enjoyed the cinema room and the games room and all being able to sit around the dining table together. Also we loved Harlech with the beautiful beach and the castle and fantastic views from the house. Would love to return someday.

    We had a really enjoyable week's stay in October 2018. The rooms were all very clean. There was a very well stocked kitchen (much better collection of dishes, utensils and equipment than probably any other cottage we have stayed at). Two dishwashers, two fridges and clear instructions for food waste recycling etc. The wifi was really good. Plenty of parking available. All things that should be taken for granted but more often that not fall short. The home cinema, snug / football table are all fun/ good / useful. We were also left a selection of butter, homemade jam, bread barra brith and chocolate by the owners. :-) The location is superb - only a short walk to the castle/Harlech town centre and the beach. The cottage has a wide variety of activities in the local area. I would recommend the Grapes for a Sunday roast (about 20 minutes in the car).

    Friendly owner, great communication. Fantastic well equipped house in close proximity to beach and loads of places to visit and sight see.
