Description

Explore north Yorkshire and all it has to offer while staying in the heart of Brotton at Listers Lodge

Listers Lodge is a lovely semi-detached cottage, which is ideal for anyone wanting to explore the hidden gems of both the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Heritage Coast. It has a garden on two levels which is ideal for relaxing and having a barbecue. Situated on Brotton high street, the cottage is ideal for relaxing in Brotton village, or for a superb gateway to the delights that Yorkshire has to offer. Brotton dates back to medieval times when it was known as Brocturn, or town at the brow of a hill. The village lies just 2 miles from the seaside resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, famous for its Grade II listed pier, one of the world’s oldest funicular cliff railways and genuine smuggler’s bay. The Cleveland Way snakes its way through the area, making it an ideal place for hikers and bikers. There is also a golf course with a floodlit driving range within a 10-minute walk. Saltburn is also filled with plenty to do for all the family, including crazy golf, a play factory and a fabulous family friendly beach.
The dramatic Heritage coastline is home to some amazing coves such as Robin Hood’s Bay, Runswick Bay, and is just 17 miles away from the jewel of Whitby. This enchanting fishing town is home to 3 miles of unspoilt beaches, boat trips and cobbled backstreets filled with shops, cafés and restaurants.
Hidden amongst miles of public footpaths and country roads of the North Yorkshire Moors you can find delights such as the North York Moors Steam Railway, which travels through the heart of the National Park.
York is just over an hour’s drive away, where you’ll find the National Railway Museum and the Jorvik Viking Centre, or just enjoy a lovely day out exploring the walls and cobbled streets. There is also a variety of theme parks in the area, such as Lightwater Valley, Beamish Museum and Flamingo Land to keep the young, and the young at heart entertained. Beach 1¼ miles. Shop 30 yards, pub and restaurant 300 yards.

The cottage is situated well for visiting lots of lovely places nearby , Whitby , saltburn , Runswick bay , staithes , and the very beautiful skinning grove beach are all within a short drive away . Scott the owner was very friendly and helpful. we arrived abit early on the day he kindly let us drop all our bags off and while he finished getting the cottage ready, myself and my family went into saltburn for fish and chips which I would highly recommend ! There are 3 pubs close by 2 of which we went in and the locals were very friendly , there is a spar shop situated just across the road. Well stocked reasonably priced . There were some toiletries left in the cottage which were useful for 6 people ..The down sides for us were the shower was very poor , either too hot or freezing cold and very bad pressure also so we opted to run baths instead however it took a good 40 minutes to run a bath of a decent depth due to poor pressure the water ran out so slowly and with 6 adults in our party it was quite tedious and not what you really want to be messing about with when your on your holidays trying to just relax and enjoy your time away . The underfloor heating didn't work and the whole of the property downstairs is stone tiles so extemely cold on the floor but we did put the heating on to make it warm in the cottage the floor in the bathroom was nice and warm though. Scott the owner kindly did come and have a look at the underfloor heating unfortunately he couldn't get it to work either . The cupboard / wardrobe in one of the upstairs bedrooms was under some sort of renovation and looked very unsightly and really spoils the look of the room I understand from time to time maintenance and repairs will have to be undertaken however these sort of jobs should really be carried out , out of season. Unless they are necessary and cosmetic repairs I don't regard as such . If I had seen this on the pictures on the website It would of put me off. Sadly the following morning after we arrived we went out to find out car had been Scratched all down one side after Parking in the side road , the police were informed , we were told by several locals that this had happened before and when I checked online I did see a review from November 2017 saying someone who had stayed at the cottage had also had their car damaged . it does say plenty of offstreet parking but the people in the side road don't like people parking there and one man was particlaury unpleasant it's unfair as its hard to park elsewhere. The cottage has a garage on the same street with a small frontage where you can park but it's difficult if you have a large car as we do or if you have more then one vehicle as we did ...someone is defiantly being malicious and that's not fair on either the part owner or the holiday maker . It really did spoil our holiday ...The police are VERY aware now so whoever it is they won't keep getting away with it ...I hope the person or Person is caught to to prevent anyone else having to go through all the hassle as we have .
