Follow in the footsteps of Elizabeth I and spend some time exploring the beautiful Cinque port market town of Rye. In 1573 she bestowed the title Rye Royale. Stay in this well thought out and stylish holiday cottage which is just a 6 minute walk from the centre of the town, with its large selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes. You could discover for yourself why many authors, musicians, artists and celebrities have chosen to settle here. Rye is one of the best preserved medieval towns in England, despite being the haunt of the notorious smugglers, The Hawkhurst Gang. Visit The Mermaid Inn, their famous hideout, where the cellars date back to 1156. Visit the Rye Museum and climb St Mary’s Tower for breathtaking views across to Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and Winchelsea. See Lamb House, the home of Henry James and later E. F. Benson, and where they filmed the recent production of ’Mapp and Lucia’. Another great film location is Camber Sands and going in the other direction towards Hastings where ’Foyles War’ was filmed. There are also connections by train to London. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant ½ mile.

We had a fantastic time at Kiln Cottage and would highly recommend it. We will certainly be booking to go again. It was perfectly situated within a ten minute stroll into the town centre and the George Inn. Lovely comfortable bed and sofa in the lounge. Great picture on TV and an excellent shower and cooking facilities if you want. All beautifully clean. Fresh cut flowers and a pint of milk in the fridge was a welcoming touch.

If you intend on catering/ cooking for yourself this cottage has everything you would need ! (double oven , full range of equipment etc) Nice quiet location and cozy feel. Good dog walking nearby, spotlessly clean . We stayed during the Christmas holidays and the cottage was decorated but we would have loved a Christmas tree to make it perfect .! Nice king size bed , however mattress would need an upgrade / took a while to get used to it. Overall really enjoyed our stay .

Wonderful little cottage just right for two people. It had all amenities and would be nice in the summer to sit in the little courtyard garden. A nice walk into Rye and you pass the railway station so easy to take the train. The local supermarket was close and was lovely.

The cottage was in a good location for easy access to tow. It was clean and reasonably well equipped, although perhaps a bit basic. I would not stay here again as the bed was very uncomfortable. Poor quality mattress made of foam, with big dips in it. The foam also made it very hot to try and sleep. I would have slept on the sofa if there had been alternative bedding available.

This was our second stay in Kiln Cottage and we enjoyed it as much this time around. Very cosy and homely feel and we will definitely stay again in the future. Not far to High Street and amenities I.e pubs and restaurants which suits us.
