What we love

Explore the Highlands from this unique, elevated, cruck-frame strawbale house with southerly views over Loch Sunart and a hot tub on the large deck.

This unique, eco-friendly strawbale house has incredible views from its elevated position and is as spectacular as many featured on TV’s ‘Grand Designs’. Boasting a Green Tourism Gold Award, and facing due south with commanding views over Loch Sunart and the Morvern hills beyond, this detached property offers a huge upstairs with an arched roof and open plan kitchen, ?dining and living areas. It has floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding glass doors at the southern end which lead out onto the balcony where there is a small table and chairs for you to enjoy your morning coffee. A spiral staircase leads to the large lower deck with the hot tub, dining and sitting areas with a chiminea. Enjoy walks through the historic Ariundle oak woods, a temperate rainforest, and discover the old lead mines which are close by.
The rest of the peninsula has much to offer, including a number of ’Corbett’ mountains, the stunning Loch Sunart, Ardnamurchan Lighthouse at the most westerly tip of the British Isles and the Ardmamurchan Distillery. There are pristine, sandy beaches along the coast, including Sanna Bay with its impressive white sand dunes and views across to Muck, Eigg and Rum. There is an abundance of wildlife, seabirds, seals, otters, deer, pine martens, as well as dolphin/whale watching and the Natural History Visitor Centre. It is possible to rent mountain bikes in the village and go for local kayak trips. You can also enjoy day trips to Glencoe and Ben Nevis (with skiing possible at each), and fans of Harry Potter can take the ’Jacobite Express’ steam train from Fort William to Mallaig, see the Glenfinnan Viaduct and so much more. This peaceful and tranquil place offers a truly ‘get away from it all’ experience and the views will amaze you - so come and relax. The local beach is less than ½ mile away and the stunning sandy coves at Ardtoe just a 12 mile drive. Shops, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.

Had a fantastic time.Robert the owner was so helpful and always available if needed.Accomodation perfect and views stunning! Hot tub an added bonus even when it was snowing.Everything catered for - plenty DVD’s,games etc Netflix too!Lovely beach 5 minutes walk away.Robert and Justine have worked very hard to make this a comfortable easy place to stay and the artwork from their daughter that decorates Jill is a lovely personal touch. If you are looking for an unusual place to stay and quiet this is it! Well done guys!

Jill Strawbale House was absolutely stunning, and I cannot recommend this property enough. The rooms are beautifully designed, well-equipped and boast luxury on every level. The communications and help we received from the owners were first class, the views from each room are spectacular and the furnishings create the ultimate luxury holiday! It is clear the owners have put a lot of time and effort into making the property eco-friendly; we were very impressed! The location is fantastic, not only do you have the sights of the loch, snow topped mountains, and woodlands from your balcony, you are only a short distance from Strontian village where we were delightfully surprised to find a beautiful café, restaurant, petrol station and general food stores. Not only this, for fellow Harry Potter fans, many of the filming locations are only a drive away from the property – we were so happy! We were visited by the cutest Pine Marten on our second night and stumbled across other wildlife on our explorations around the local area including herons, herds of wild deer, highland cows and golden eagles – you just feel like you’ve stepped into another life where day-to-day stresses just melt away; it was the perfect getaway for our anniversary! Thank you so much to Rob and Justine. We will definitely be returning to Jill!

Fantastic place to stay , very clean and well equipped. Communication throughout was greatly appreciated. Would highly recommend this beautiful property to others local area had the most stunning scenery . Local shop was highly stocked should you need any essentials, prepare yourself if going in the winter months for local attractions not being open. Overall a fantastic place to stay and get away from the world. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rated

Had a great stay at Jill, fantastic property , loved the hot tub. Nice and relaxing location. You'd need to use your car if you wanted to venture further a field , unless you're just there for walking. Corran ferry is handy to get to fort William , otherwise it's a good hours drive around the peninsula but stunning scenery on the way . Using the ferry frequently can be expensive, £8.50 each way unless you have a blue badge!

We have stayed in the Highlands many times before but never in a property as perfect as Jill. The property is absolutely beautiful inside and out. Location is perfect if you like stunning scenery and peace and quiet. The views from the property are fantastic and we even had a visit from a Pine Marten most evenings.

Spent a lovely week here chilling out, enjoying everything this area has to offer. Great base to get around the area, lots to do and see. Local amenities were also good. Thoroughly enjoyed the cottage and all that it offers. Every day was a new adventure for us, not knowing what we would end up seeing and experiencing. Every day we woke up to different views as the weather changed, and great for stargazing for the hot tub.
