Description

A cosy bolthole for two in the heart of Dartmoor - enjoy a weekend break and an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

With stunning views down the River Dart and over to the ever changing landscape of Dartmoor beyond, Fisherman’s Nook is a detached, traditional granite barn, which has been converted to provide a comfortable and welcoming home from home. Tastefully furnished and well-equipped, the property is ideal for those looking for a quiet and convenient base. The property is located in the heart of the Dartmoor National Park at Dartmeet, one of Dartmoor’s many and varied beauty spots, famous for its ancient clapper bridge. There are some wonderful walks just a short stroll away from your front door along the river and up onto Dartmoor.
During your stay, there is much to see and do. Widecombe-in-the-Moor offers two excellent pubs, serving locally sourced food, the world-famous church known as ’Cathedral on the Moors’, a National Trust shop, post office, gift shops and several tea rooms. Castle Drogo, a National Trust property, is the last castle built in England, and along with many other National Trust properties, is within easy reach. Situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dartmoor offers rock tors, wild ponies, exquisite walks, horse riding, fishing, cycling, falconry and golf at Bovey Castle. Within 8 miles are the picturesque villages of Ashburton, Chagford and Moretonhampstead, with historic inns, excellent pubs, tea rooms, antique shops, an independent fishmongery, tennis courts and Miniature Pony Centre. The Eden Project is only an hour’s drive away. Shop 7½ miles, pub and restaurant 5 miles.

We arrived to find Danny waiting for us. The accommodation was really comfortable and well fitted out, you felt you were in someone's home rather than a holiday cottage. The added bonus was a selection of food supplied for us which was extremely generous. The cottage is well placed within the national park, to enjoy some really good days out whether it be walking or sight seeing. The cottage is isolated from local amenities so you need to be prepared in advance, but overall this accommodation is definitely on our list to return to.

Fisherman's nook is the best , most luxurious cottage we have ever stayed in. The decor was like something straight out of the magazine, so beautifully decorated. The lady owner was very welcoming and accomodating at a very short notice. The position of the cottage was right at the heart of the moor, it could not have been better.

Fabulous stay, Fisherman's Nook is very cosy and well equipped with plenty of walking directly from the place. Local amenities were limited as we were out of season (end of Feb) but that didn't detract from our stay.

Lovely, lovely place to stay. Fantastically kitted out - especially the kitchen. Wonderful view from the bedroom window. Comfortable lounge - lots of snuggly blankets, (not needed for warmth!) and books and things. Looks like home. Peaceful position. Generous welcome pack with all essentials and some treats! The owner couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. Can't comment about local amenities as we didn't use them, but I think it's a couple of miles or so the the nearest pub or shop, which is part of the charm. But rivers and access to the moors right on the doorstep! We took our bikes - plenty of storage for them in the garage. But the weather was not suitable. 20% - 25% hills all around as well so I need to train a bit more or take the bikes to a different starting point.
