Field Cottage is a charming detached cottage with a large garden, and is set at the end of a farm track which has fantastic views over the open countryside. Field Cottage offers a quiet and peaceful break but is only just over a mile from Castle Douglas, Scotland’s food town, a delightful small market town with an array of independent shops selling produce and quality gifts. There are number of cafés, pubs and restaurants to enjoy a meal in, as well as an excellent butchers and food shops for you to sample the local produce.
If you want to explore more of this beautiful area there are attractions in abundance, from beautiful sandy beaches to dramatic cliff top walks along the majestic Solway Coast. With sailing, swimming, riding, fishing, golf, boat trips and water sports close by, there is something for everyone.
Warmed by the Gulf Stream, there are many beautiful gardens to visit, including Threave Gardens, a National Trust property. Close to the Galloway Forest Park, home to the first Dark Sky Park in Europe, and central to 5 of the 7 Stanes, at Kirroughtree Forest and Dalbeattie Forest, it is a popular location for cyclists and mountain bikers.
For those with young children, there are a number of great days out, from beautiful sandy beaches to farm parks, including Ernespie Farm Park just 5 minutes away, and adventure playgrounds. A wander round the lovely harbour town of Kirkcudbright is a must, where you can visit Broughton House, home of the artist E A Hornel, and stroll down to the harbour where you can watch the fishing boats returning.
