From the cottage, you can take a short drive to Foyers, which is on the shores of Loch Ness, or visit the popular village of Fort Augustus, where you can watch the boats going through the locks of the Caledonian Canal. Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, is only 25 miles away, with the stunning Moray coastline just slightly further that’s well worth a visit to experience its stunning scenery, unspoilt sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages which are dotted along the coast.
Among the many activities available are walking and mountain biking for all ability levels, river and loch fishing, cruises on Loch Ness or the Moray coast, kayaking and other water sports, and golf, with numerous courses within easy reach. Brodue and Cawdor Castles, Culloden Battlefield and Fort George are some of the many historic sites you can visit. Further afield, take a trip to the beautiful West Coast, where you can enjoy the wonderful scenery and perhaps visit the Isle of Skye. A day trip to the Orkney Islands in the far north is well worth the effort.
