Drumnadrochit

Drumnadrochit can be found on the west shore of Loch Ness, at the foot of Glen Urquhart, and is located in a most picturesque part of the Scottish Highlands.

The village is steeped in history and has a lovely Loch side location, nearby waterfalls, ancient Caledonian forest and breath-taking landscapes all add to its attraction.

Close by are the well-preserved ruins of Urquhart Castle, a triumphant early medieval fortification overlooking the Loch. The Castle dates back to the 13th Century and is an important part of Highland heritage. Potential sightings of the Loch Ness monster have drawn visitors to Drumnadrochit for years and a Nessie themed exhibition offers visitor’s insight into the role this mysterious beast has played in the village’s history.

The village hall dates back to 1914 and many white-harled cottages line the streets. Drumnadrochit is exceptionally charming and there are some delightful cafes and pubs where traditional Scottish fare is served daily and visitors can relax and enjoy Scottish culture at its best.

Drumnadrochit’s close proximity to Loch Ness ensures that there are plenty of outdoor activities suited to visitors of all ages. Various boat trips on the Loch allow you to conduct your own search for Nessie, or a day spent salmon, trout or pike fishing can be great fun.

The Highlands are there to be explored and there are endless walks, cycle ways and pony trekking trails that wind through the village and into the mountains and forests beyond.
