There’s also Malmesbury, a town that dates back to the 5th century and is dubbed ‘queen of hilltop towns’ due to its elevated position above the River Avon. Leafield House is a substantial, detached holiday home set in wonderful countryside with far reaching views. It is nestled in a valley on the southern edge of the Cotswolds, far away from traffic yet within easy reach of the M4. There is plenty of space for larger groups to spread out – a delightful conservatory overlooks the fields, and the games room is a grand combined library/2nd living room with high ceiling and chandeliers, a wide selection of reading material and games, pool table, table tennis and a piano. A great place to entertain in style! Dogs are welcome here with a fully enclosed garden and a utility room, complete with adjacent dog shower. Upper Seagry is a picturesque village and there are many more villages in the area to discover. There are ample footpaths and bridleways nearby. A visit to Malmesbury is a must, just 6 miles north, with its 12th-century Benedictine abbey, whilst a trip to the Cotswold Water Park is a real treat. Westonbirt Arboretum, with its extensive collection of trees and shrubs is not to be missed. Within an easy drive you will find the picturesque village of Castle Combe, a favourite film location for TV dramas and films, and is also well known for its car racing track. Another popular film location is the quaint National Trust village of Lacock, used as the setting for the BBC TV series ’Cranford’, and part of the Harry Potter films. The impressive Roman city of Bath, Bowood House and the ancient stone circles at Stonehenge and Avebury are also easily accessible. Swindon, with its designer outlet village, within a railway museum, is worth a visit. For horse lovers, the annual Badminton Horse Trials and Dauntsey Horse Trials are held nearby, and there is easy access to the racecourses at Newbury, Bath and Cheltenham.
