This enchanting 18th-century Grade II listed thatched cottage, adorned with climbing wisteria and nestled in the historic heart of Dolton, mid Devon, is the epitome of countryside charm. Brimming with character, it offers a delightful base for exploring the natural beauty and heritage of the region.
The Old Yard Barn is traditionally furnished with authentic features such as exposed beams, thick stone walls, and pine latch doors. The living room centres around a striking inglenook fireplace with a wood-burning stove, creating a cosy atmosphere, while the dining room features a classic farmhouse table, chairs, and dresser. Upstairs, there is a spacious main bedroom and a smaller single room, along with a family bathroom. Please note that the single bed can be pulled out into a double bed sleeping a maximum of 4 people. This will only be available upon request at the time of booking.
Outside, the lawned garden provides a tranquil space to unwind, complete with outdoor furniture for enjoying the peaceful surroundings of this timeless home.
Guests can enjoy leisurely strolls through the village, pick up essentials at the local shops, or relax with a drink in one of the two welcoming pubs. Nearby attractions include the Devon Wildlife Trust reserve at Halsdon and the beautifully landscaped RHS Rosemoor Gardens in Torrington. A little further afield, Dartmoor National Park and the dramatic North Devon coastline are both within a 30-minute drive, offering stunning scenery and excellent freshwater fishing opportunities.
There is ample public parking in the main square about 50 metres away or on street parking.
