Find cottages in Torrington

Commanding spectacular views due to its elevated position above the River Torridge Valley, the market town of Torrington, in North Devon, welcomes all visitors warmly and boasts a host of attractions.

Also known as Great Torrington, this charming town is surrounded by rolling green countryside that has remained refreshingly unspoilt over the past 100 years. With delightful riverside walks and plenty of cycling paths meandering through the landscape, the area is truly perfect for enjoying the fresh open air. Indeed, the beautiful scenery here inspired Henry Williamson to write his famous novel, Tarka the Otter.

The town centre in Torrington has many traditional shops including bakers, butchers and craft centres selling local produce. Torrington also has one of the oldest pubs in the whole of North Devon, the 15th century Black Horse Inn. The town has a rich history and played an important role in the English Civil War. Visitors to Torrington today can learn more about this role by traversing the Civil War Trail, a short walking history of the town.

There are many more fascinating attractions to enjoy here, from the relaxing to the energetic. Active visitors will love Survival Paintball and Laser, set in 20 acres of woodland. For a more serene experience, try a trip to the world-famous Dartington Crystal visitor centre or the rather unique Barometer World Exhibition, with its unusual collection of weather predictors.

If you wish to experience the warmth of one of the most welcoming towns in the country, consider staying in Torrington holiday cottages for your next holiday.
