Cottage needs a good clean. Our two under 2s quickly highlighted dust everywhere, found a dog toy covered in spider webs and left over dog biscuits from previous guests. It was a wet weekend and the cottage leaks from the front door in to the living room. So it was wet to the stairs across a 3rd of the room. Once damp you clearly get the distinct smell of wet dog!

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Really sorry you were so upset by the cleanliness at Woodburn. Since opening 12 months ago, we have been receiving consistently good feedback regarding cleanliness and apologies if our standards slipped on this occasion. Thanks for pointing out particular issues which we will look out for in future, as well as trying to improve our attention to detail. The issue of the leak onto the carpet and the ensuing smell was caused by extreme weather and I believe was a one off event. In 6 years at Beckside, we have never seen as much water come down in such a short period. The cottage has never leaked in the past, and having recently checked the cottage myself as well as asking our last guests (who had very heavy rain last week), I am pleased to say there was no sign of any dampness or smell. Again, we're sorry if these events spoilt the weekend for you and the children.

The cottage was lovely but was a little too remote. The village appeared run down in places. The pub was quiet but friendly and definately worth a visit for the ale alone.
