Restored from a 14th-century Pele Tower and retaining lovely period features. Great for large groups with lawns, games room and bike store.

For a holiday with a difference, Whitehall Pele Tower is a wonderfully atmospheric 14th-century Pele Tower providing a magnificent setting for a large family or group, perfectly placed for exploring the Lake District and Solway Coast. Grade I listed, the house has been owned by the same family for 150 years and has a long and fascinating history. An addition to the original building was made in the 16th century and the first restoration was made in 1861, after it was bought by the merchant and philanthropist George Moore. Whitehall Pele Tower has all the benefits of modern living, whilst retaining its original character. The house stands in an acre of grounds containing the picturesque ruins of a Victorian manor house. Two of the larger lawns can be used for family games. Inside the house are spacious rooms, including a first floor sitting room with enormous Tudor stone fireplace, looking out over tranquil pastureland. The grounds are full of birdlife and the scenery of the Northern Lakes is close at hand. Bassenthwaite Lake, 7 miles. Whinlatter Visitor Centre, Altura Mountain Bike Trail and Go Ape, 17 miles. The 'cottage' and gardens were wonderful, magical and enchanting and exceeded any expectations that we had beforehand. It was the perfect location to celebrate our son's 21st birthday!

We spent a week at Whitehall Pele tower and used the location as a base for touring the lakes. The house was good value, even with only 4 of us staying The property and grounds are fantastic, with loads of character and history. A barbecue in the garden would have been a nice addition

We had a lovely week in April 2018. The accommodation was faultless and the kids loved playing in the garden and games room. There was plenty to do in the area, and we would recommend the miners walk near Ireby. We will certainly be visiting Whitehall again.

This is a great place for a family holiday. The kitchen is very well equipped with plenty of everything twice-over for eight people and a good sized dining table. The living room has enough comfy chairs for everyone and a beautiful open fire (very much appreciated on an extremely cold weekend!) The only down-side was the restriction on the central heating and the lack of radiators in hallways, but keeping all the doors closed means the rooms can be warm and we just had to go out in the daytimes. I think we did choose the coldest week of the year! Very interesting grounds too.

Such a beautiful place. The children absolutely loved it. They all loved the toy room. Very spacious. Good base to visit other areas in the Lake District too.

This is an amazing place to stay with real wow factor. The pictures do not do the place justice. Very well stocked kitchen even supplies cleaning products. Highly recommend staying here.

Had a fantastic week with 3 generations of our family. Loved the relaxed, homely atmosphere of the tower. So much history to explore and imagine! Lots of walking and then meals round the table with a few drinks and laughter. The new kitchen with it's "bake off" ovens made cooking more fun. I'm sure we'll be back again.

Didn't really want to give it a top score as don't want anybody else to go there, but it's an absolutely fabulous place
