For a holiday with a difference, Whitehall Pele Tower is a wonderfully atmospheric 14th-century Pele Tower providing a magnificent setting for a large family or group, perfectly placed for exploring the Lake District and Solway Coast. Grade I listed, the house has been owned by the same family for 150 years and has a long and fascinating history. An addition to the original building was made in the 16th century and the first restoration was made in 1861, after it was bought by the merchant and philanthropist George Moore. Whitehall Pele Tower has all the benefits of modern living, whilst retaining its original character. The house stands in an acre of grounds containing the picturesque ruins of a Victorian manor house. Two of the larger lawns can be used for family games. Inside the house are spacious rooms, including a first floor sitting room with enormous Tudor stone fireplace, looking out over tranquil pastureland. The grounds are full of birdlife and the scenery of the Northern Lakes is close at hand. Bassenthwaite Lake, 7 miles. Whinlatter Visitor Centre, Altura Mountain Bike Trail and Go Ape, 17 miles. Cockermouth, 10 miles. Hadrian’s Wall, 16 miles. Keswick, 16 miles. Ullswater, 26 miles. Shops and restaurant 4 miles, pub 2 miles.

Had the best time! This is our second visit and we were already pricing the return trip while travelling back! Take lots of wood and enjoy the open fire (my highlight!!)

We stayed at Whitehall for a weekend as a base for a wedding we were attending. It is a fantastic place. Full of history and interest. Great for a gathering of family or friends. Loads of space inside and a large garden.

We had a fantastic few day stay at Whitehall pele tower (3rd, 4th and 5th Nov). There were 8 adults staying at the accommodation for a birthday get away. We had a number of friends visit us on the Saturday and Sunday and at no time did the place feel crowded. The huge living room with the open fire had a real party atmosphere to it. The facilities at the property were spot on, the kitchen is modern with everything we could’ve needed for our stay. The weather was kind to us so we were able to use our pop-up badminton set we took, in the very spacious garden. The beds were very comfy and the accommodation was clean throughout (extra fridge, washing machine and tumble dryer in the utility room). We couldn’t fault the property at all, it was totally value for money. The property is over 500 years old, and as with any property that old there is always going to be a few signs of wear and tear, but hopefully with the love and affection the owners are showing the old girl, it will probably still be standing in another 500 years.

Fabulous house, so large it accommodated our family of eight with ease. Plenty of exploration opportunities with wonderful views, and space for all manor of games on the lawns. Peace and tranquility, bliss.

Seven of us of mixed ages enjoyed a very pleasant week in this fascinating and historic house. The facilities, particularly the kitchen were excellent and it was a very enjoyable house with plenty of space for all of us. It was warm and comfortable. Great attention had been paid to detail and we found that there was everything that we needed, and we were left good instructions for use of equipment and rubbish disposal etc. The young enjoyed the games room and the dressing up box.

The 'cottage' and gardens were wonderful, magical and enchanting and exceeded any expectations that we had beforehand. It was the perfect location to celebrate our son's 21st birthday!

We spent a week at Whitehall Pele tower and used the location as a base for touring the lakes. The house was good value, even with only 4 of us staying The property and grounds are fantastic, with loads of character and history. A barbecue in the garden would have been a nice addition
