This property is part of our Welcome Cottages collection

A carefully curated collection of properties that offer high quality, good value accommodation in great locations across the UK, Ireland, France and Italy

Set amongst an AONB, Ramscliff Cottage sets the scene for a peaceful couples retreat. There are idyllic walks to be enjoyed nearby.

Set in a secluded position high in the Mendips above Cheddar Gorge and just 3 miles from Cheddar, these three attractive barn conversions Ramscliff Cottage (ref EGA), Long Wood (ref EPH) and Mendip (ref UKC2794) make an excellent base for walkers and nature lovers. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is rich in bird and wildlife, including badgers and deer (which visit the farm). Animals on the farm include calves, pygmy goats, alpacas and guinea pigs. Nature trails criss-cross the surrounding hills, easily accessible from the farm, and the whole area is one of immense historical and geological interest.
Among the many places of interest to visit are Wells cathedral in England’s smallest city, Glastonbury Tor, the caves at Cheddar and Wookey, Longleat and several National Trust properties including Montacute House and Stourhead and King John’s Hunting Lodge in pretty Axbridge. Excellent beaches and seaside entertainment can be enjoyed at Weston Super Mare and Brean, and there are many charming villages to be explored, along with the rugged landscape of Exmoor National Park, famous for the native ponies. The Georgian Heritage city of Bath, 50 minutes away, is easily reached and has beautiful architecture, Roman Baths, an abbey and a fine selection of shops and restaurants. Several golf clubs are available locally together with horse riding, coarse fishing and trout fishing at Chew Valley and Blagdon Lakes. Very good local inns and places to eat. Beach 17 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 3 miles. These properties can be booked together to accommodate up to 13 guests.

Lovely cottage. The best equipped we have stayed in to date. Lots of extras on arrival including wine, chocolates and flowers very much appreciated. We had to leave early due to dental problems but enjoyed our brief stay very much. Located on a working farm with llamas and a great location from which to explore the surrounding area. Maybe a bit isolated for some but shops, amenities and places to visit a few miles away. Very friendly, and helpful, hosts. We have always stayed on the coast before but will definitely reconsider doing this again and staying inland. Thank you.

Nice place to stay surrounded by countryside with local live stock. alpacas were lovely and so were the young cows. local to cheddar which was good with a nice local walk leading to the Gorge. You could walk the loop if fit enough! 6 miles ? Cheddar had a few pubs, couple of restaurants and takeaways with reasonable food. other pubs, a few miles further out. Cave was quite expensive for what it was but interesting and so was local history. Somerset was quite picturesque with the Mendips and was very spaced out with small villages along nice roads. Wells cathedral is an amazing building. Also enjoyed Glastonbury with Abbey, Weston super mare, Hestercombe House and gardens.

Ramscliffe Cottage is set in a working farm with beautiful views across the surrounding countryside. It has a well equipped kitchen, a large bedroom and good sized bathroom. It is close to the Cheddar Gorge, 5 min drive, and the town of Wells, where there is a Waitrose , Tesco and a Lidl. Bath and Bristol are also in easy driving reach. I would rate this cottage very highly, it is well furnished to a high degree. I would definitely stay there again.

Ramscliffe Cottage is a wonderful place to stay. Far enough away from busy Cheddar but close enough to an amazing number of places to visit. Lovely owners, well appointed accommodation with everything we needed. Do not usually go back to the same place twice but with Ramscliffe you never know. We had a splendid week which ended with us see a baby Alpaca being born.
