This property is part of our English Country Cottages collection

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Garden Cottage is the perfect accommodation for two looking for a lovely retreat surrounded by countryside.

High in the Devon hills above the Taw/Torridge estuaries Webbery Manor Estate is an oasis of rural tranquillity. Steeped in history and with several noteworthy owners, Webbery Manor Estate was first mentioned in the Doomsday Book. It was given to Nicholas the Crossbowman, by a grateful William the Conqueror as a Saxon manor. In the 17th century it passed to the Lippincott family, one of whom set sail with the Mayflower flotilla to settle in America. In the 18th century, John Cutcliffe, the grandson of the owner, fought at the battle of Waterloo and was personally promoted by the Duke of Wellington.
Set in 30 acres of parkland and woods, with grazing sheep, deer, owls, pheasant, birds of prey and other wildlife. The delightful gardens have numerous specimen trees and banks of rhododendrons giving a spectacular spring display. While the organic walled kitchen gardens grow some more unusual varieties of vegetables to the UK. You will find Romanesco, Cavelo Nero, and Pink Fir Apple potatoes to name a few, all complimentary subject to season and availability.

The barn doors replaced with full height picture windows with views towards the Bristol Channel and Lundy Island. Beautifully decorated and furnished with antique and period pieces, solid oak floors, and hand-made curtains. Relax in the stylish, living room with Chinese carpet, and wood-burning stove on marble hearth. There are comfortable chairs to relax on and watch the flat screen TV, and doors leading to the garden with views towards Lundy Island. The large bespoke kitchen with range cooker is ideal for family breakfasts and informal evening meals round the large farmhouse table. The double en-suite bedroom room has triple aspect windows, brass bedstead and crisp fresh linen.
The lively market town of Bideford makes an excellent day out, with weekly market and working harbour. With so many pubs and restaurants to choose from, why not treat yourself to a meal out before heading home. Fishing and horse riding can be found within 5 miles. Shops and pubs 5 miles.

Large living/dining room with oak floor. Large kitchen with oak worktops and slate floor. Double bedroom with 5ft French, inlaid bed, oak floor and en-suite shower room with double shower cubicle and toilet.

This is an idyllic retreat in rural Devon. Warm, comfortable and totally peaceful. Loads of room to walk around the estate. Very dog friendly. And Katy’s scones are to die for!

Fantastic cottage enhanced by the welcome pack from the owners. Could not fault the facilities or cleanliness of the cottage. Would have no hesitation in recommending.

This was an outstanding experience. Superior accommodation at a very very reasonable cost. This cottage had all the comforts - PLUS. This was an unique break with lots of added extras - wine in the fridge & home-made scones on arrival, help yourself to fruit & veg from their two walled gardens, the use of the owners first-rate tennis court & grand pavilion, and free access to their 30-acre estate. With the bar set so high, will we ever find anything better in the future!

Great location, welcome was confusing as we'd arranged a time to meet the owner who was then not around. We were told to look under 'the pot' for the keys but there were at least a dozen and my back is not up to bending down and peering under pots. Needless to say we checked the correct pot last. Also the Knowle settees felt about as old as Webbery Manor itself - maybe some new cushions could be provided?

Great place but Devon is not the place it used to be. Towns are tired and in need of an injection of life.

We had a wonderful week in this cottage. It was very comfortable and welcoming. Every detail had been thought of and it was extremely well equipped. We were give a warm welcome and the owners were nearby to answer any questions we might have had. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the cottage and also the beautiful and extensive grounds. North Devon itself is endlessly beautiful.
