Scottish Country Cottages

An inspiring collection of properties chosen for their character, luxury and heritage, all graded 4 star and above.

Fishing enthusiasts will love this idyllic cottage, with sea fishing from nearby rocks, and slipway for visitors boats for loch fishing.

With splendid views of the Five Sisters of Kintail and Loch Duich, these three very comfortable, single-storey cottages are ideally placed for touring north-west Scotland and the Isle of Skye, making this an ideal holiday location for walkers and mountain climbers. Furnished and equipped to the 4* Visit Scotland grading, each has its own garden where a resident pine marten visits all three properties, and a slipway is available for visitor’s boats. Abundant wildlife, such as seals, porpoises and otters can be seen in the loch. All three properties have a wildlife observation hide at the water’s edge. Good sea fishing can be enjoyed from nearby rocks. Kyle (12 miles) has shops, a good seafood restaurant and the bridge to Skye. Further up the loch lies Dornie, with access to the dramatic Falls of Glomach. Guests can enjoy a free 1-hour cruise (or hire on an extended trip) on the owners’ private cruiser (Apr-Sep, weather permitting) around Loch Duich and even up to the unforgettably beautiful Eilean Donan Castle (3 miles) which is set at the confluence of three lochs. Fishing tackle and tea/coffee is supplied on the boat. Shop 200 to 300 yards, pub nearby.

This part stone-built detached cottage, with unusual turf roof, stands in a wonderful shoreside location. Living/dining room with electric ‘wood burner’, wooden floor, French doors to patio, garden and modern fitted kitchen area with breakfast bar. Double bedroom with additional single bed (for +1), fitted wardrobe, wooden floor and en-suite shower room with toilet.

From the moment we arrived and Laccie and Etta greeted us we had an incredible time. Waterside is in a stunning secluded location, is comfortable and well equipped. We will definitely be returning and recommending it to all our friends.

Beautiful cottage in a lovely position. Watching the wildlife in and out of the Loch was fascinating. We had so many small birds visit the bird table plus bank voles, mice, hedgehogs and, yes, a pine marten visit the patio just outside the large windows (the highlight of our holiday and first time to see one in the wild). The cottage is a great, well designed space for two people. We didn't have the best weather (May) but were always cosy in the cottage. The private hide that is up a short path makes for a lovely different view to watch down the Loch. Although supermarket at the Kyle of Loch Ailsh is a bit of a drive there is a small shop close by at the garage which stocks most basic supplies if need be. Cafe at Kyle (Herbie's Bothy) was grand for lunch or dinners out. Visiting the nearby picture perfect Donan Castle to take in the wonderful views was also a pleasure.

Great little house, lovely views. Lachie and Etta are great hosts, enjoyed a great trip on their boat. Stayed with our 4 month old daughter and it was like a home away from home, cosy but with enough space for all the things you need when traveling with a baby

We stayed at this cottage from 7th October 2017 for a week. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived to find the cottage warm, with scented candles burning, bunches of fresh flowers and the best homemade shortbread ever! Very welcoming. The owners were lovely and came to greet us after we had settled in. The kitchen was so well equipped, better than my own home! It was warm and right on the loch with lots of wildlife. Just off the main road so we had good access to the local attractions but you couldn't hear any traffic noise at all, it was very peaceful.

The cottage feels like it's in the middle of nowhere yet close to main road, shop and 12 miles from Skye bridge. Wonderful view straight out to the loch with a few visits from the pine martins, hedgehog, porpoises and dolphins. Cottage has everything you need, clean and welcoming. Personally would like to see a more comfortable sofa to enjoy the view and a king size bed would be better. Might be worth asking if your not confident with storage heaters like we weren't, as found it a bit nippy at times yet asked to contribute more money for heating. Kitchen was very well equipped, books and board games to enjoy. All in all, a wonderful little find and that view means you can enjoy the west coast of Scotland no matter the weather. A lovely holiday.
