A fabulous property set in 16 acres of beautiful unspoilt scenery with a cosy living room and plenty of outdoor space.

Water Bailiffs Lodge is located in the tranquil backwater of the Lumsdale Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with picturesque waterfalls and mill ponds dating from the Industrial Age. With superb view towards the hillsides of Matlock and Riber in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, this property provides a relaxing get away from it all holiday experience. This west wing of a former mill owner’s home dates from the 18th century and stands in 16 acres of rolling, peaceful countryside with ample private parking for four cars, and is just a short distance from the market town of Matlock. The quiet, rural location is the perfect base from which to tour the surrounding countryside of Derbyshire and the Peak District National Park with many delightful walks right from the door of the property.
With a stylish blend of old and new throughout, the ground floor has a cosy living room with oak beams and wood burner, a well-equipped farmhouse kitchen, a reading area with sofa bed, a utility room and a bathroom with Jacuzzi bath and separate shower. Upstairs are four rooms: a spacious master bedroom with kingsize bed; a second bedroom with double bed; and the third bedroom with a single bed and a 2ft 6in bed. An upstairs shower room completes this restored property.
Outside, visitors can enjoy the spacious open area with garden ponds and a stream. The grounds, which are shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage, are very large and provide the ideal place where you can fly kites, play ball games or just to relax on a quiet evening watching the sun set whilst enjoying a spot of alfresco dining.
Here at Water Bailiffs Lodge you have the best of both worlds: wonderful walks in the surrounding open Derbyshire countryside, and for days out, you are within close proximity to all the major tourist attractions the Derbyshire Dales have to offer. Certainly an idyllic rural retreat, yet the historic spa town of Matlock is only a mile away with its award-winning park where band concerts can be enjoyed on a Sunday summer afternoon, and where an annual Christmas Victorian market held is in December. Matlock Bath, named the little Switzerland of England, is just a couple of miles away and the famous illuminations are held here each year in September. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Water Bailliffs Lodge can be booked together with Waterfall Cottage (UK4027) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

Reading area: With double sofa bed (for children under 12).
Kitchen/dining room: With electric oven, electric hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and dishwasher.
Utility room: With washing machine.
Bathroom: With bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

First Floor:
Bedroom 1: With kingsize bed.
Bedroom 2: With double bed.
Bedroom 3: With single bed and 2ft 6in bed.
Shower room: With shower cubicle, toilet and heated towel rail.

Gas central heating, electricity, bed linen, towels, fuel for multi-fuel burner and Wi-Fi included. Travel cot and highchair available on request. Welcome pack.     This cottage is situated in a very beautiful setting. The closest local amenities were in nearby Matlock. There were only four of us, and we did not feel that it was suitable for eight people. There were only five comfortable chairs in the lounge, and the outside furniture was very poor, a small round patio table not large enough for outdoor eating and very old uncomfortable chairs. There were no bedside tables in the bedrooms. Although the kitchen was well equipped the cupboards were full of all sorts of things that you would never use on holiday. The cottage was in need of general updating. The small lawn at the front of the property had not been cut and the grass was long.

    Response on behalf of the Owner; Thank you for your comments which we have duly noted. We always strive to do our best to provide our guests with a happy holiday and to this end we are attempting to remedy the bedside table situation. Due to the layout of the fitted furniture in the bedrooms, bedside tables are not a practical item to provide hence the reason we have the semi-circular wall shelves in two of the bedrooms for a lamp and drink. However, we know that some guests may also like to have a mobile and maybe glasses near them at night and as nothing is impossible we will find a solution. Many of our visitors have family get togethers at the cottage to celebrate special occasions hence the number and variety of items in the cupboards which are usually much appreciated. The kitchen has plenty of cupboard space for these items and the food and other essentials which our guests bring with them so more often than not we get the comment a well equipped kitchen. As holiday cottage owners we must also bear in mind that there are kitchen requirements given to us by the agency and as the cottage has a dishwasher we need double the number of crockery/cutlery etc. for the number the cottage can sleep so as you will appreciate we do have to provide quite a number of items. The small bistro table is really provided just for morning coffee or to watch the sunset. As the summer season is now approaching a new set of table and chairs will be put out near the barbeque area for meals alfresco, hopefully addressing this comment. We take great pride in our cottage and always value feedback enabling us to continue to provide the high standard we strive for.

    Had just amazing time , cottage was beautiful, lots of room for a family of.. 2 grandparents 2 adult children... 2 grandkids and 1 dog .. Owners very kind and friendly... very lucky with the weather x

    Great location and the owners very friendly and helpful. Good for walking in the area and Matlock is lovely. Could do with a tumble dryer, which isn’t a deal breaker. Only criticism is that there is a dog which I found out seems to come from farm buildings to the side of the property and the last 3 nights got hardly any sleep, it was barking non-stop all hours of the night and early morning. If you are a deep sleeper then fine, but if you aren’t then you won’t get any sleep either. Don’t want to sound over critical as it is a lovely place, but something to consider

    We love this place. The cottage is beautiful, the gardens are beautiful. The owners are lovely. The local walks are fab and steeped in history. There is so much to do in Derbyshire. We loved it all so much we are going back next year.

    A beautiful place to stay, tucked away in a picturesque part of the peak distict. Great base for touring the whole area and a comfortable cottage to come back and relax at the end of the day. Lovely warm welcome from Wendy who made our stay even more enjoyable. We would definately come back next time we come to the peak district.
