This old world, terraced character holiday cottage handsomely nestles in the heart of a conservation area leading towards Biskey Howe, yet stands only a stone’s throw away from the village of Bowness. The property has been lovingly decorated and furnished with a warming multi-fuel burner in the living room to enjoy after a long day exploring. Internal features include quality oak style and carpeted floors, well proportioned bedrooms and bathroom, oak designer kitchen, and much more. Bowness-on-Windermere is one of the most beautiful natural areas in the UK, and is largely seen as the jewel in the crown of the Lake District. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy golf, walking, hiking, climbing, water-skiing and sailing, or simply cruising down the lake on one of the authentic steam boats. The village of Windermere is just 1 mile away, while Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere are all with easy reach. Or why not take the car ferry that still crosses the lake between Ferry Nab and Ferry House, and provides a convenient approach to the western side of the lake for access to the villages of Hawkshead and Sawrey. A Lakeland treasure in a peaceful part of the village, Warner Lea is the perfect place to relax and unwind. Shop, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

    Pros: location could not be better, easy stroll to the centre of Bowness and 15 minutes in the other direction to Windermere centre. Some local walks available, drive to others. House is clean and very well equipped for self catering. Large Bathroom on second floor with great shower. One other toilet and wash hand basin but would benefit from a second shower for a 3 bed property. Cons: Bed linen and quilt did not fit the bed in the second floor bedroom. First floor super king also appeared to have a king size quilt. TV in second floor bedroom does not work - this was reported on day 2 as all TVs at the point were not working. Engineer arrived on day 4 and got 2 of the 3 working. Ground floor radiators are not man enough to heat the space. It is necessary to use the gas fire or log burner if you spend time there in the evening. We were out most evenings so not really a problem for us.

    Great property in great location. So much to do locally - walking and exploring. Lots of nice eating and drinking places.

    Great break for the new year, for all the family. Only downside, is the back door allows a lot of draft to keep downstairs quite cold. But that's just a minor. We'll definitely book the cottage again

    Although we enjoyed our stay and found the cottage nice and comfortable, I was a little surprised to find no basics in the kitchen other than coffee, sugar and tea satchets. Salt and pepper would have been appreciated , plus a pint of milk. Also, only hand wash, no shower gel or shampoo. I have found other places visited always provide these.

    I stayed at Warner Lea with three friends. The cottage is amazing and in a perfect location. I would definitely recommend staying here and look forward to going back there in the future.

    A lovley time in Bowness despite the weather- A very relaxed time. The house was comfortable and very warm. A good level equipment was supplied with the house so you don't really need any extras for the stay. Our only couple of faulits with the property would be; the materesses have seen better days so could really do for replacing and the upstairs toilet was very poor at flushing away. Everything else was very good. The proeprty is located on a side street and is very private. It was an unexpected bouns.

    We've stayed at the property twice now - once in March and once in September and both times for a week. It's got the makings of a lovely cosy cottage in a great location (which is why we came back!) but it's let down by attention to detail and basic maintenance. In March we left a positive review in the property's guestbook, with a couple of suggestions: there were no cleaning products, the tin opener was broken, and the batteries in the kitchen scales needed replacing. When we arrived for our second holiday in September, the review we'd left had been ripped out of the book. Not a great sign! We arrived for our second visit to find the tin opener still hadn't been replaced (we had to use a serrated knife to open a tin of beans); there were no bedside lamps in the twin room (there had been in March); a lamp was missing in the 2nd floor bedroom (again, it had been there in March); a couple of lightbulbs needed replacing; the sheet on the super king bed was too small and had to keep being re-fitted during the night. A box of matches had also been left out on the hearth in front of the fire - not what you want when you've got small children. Again, highlights carelessness/a lack of thought. The property was mostly surface clean, but clearly hadn't been cleaned thoroughly for quite some time - there were strands of another guest's hair in a drawer; under the beds and sofa were very dusty (I wouldn't recommend dropping anything under them!); the plastic shelving unit in the bathroom hasn't been cleaned for quite some time - it was full of soap/toothpaste slime and hair from previous guests. We contacted Cumbrian Cottages to let them know about these issues and two days later someone came to fit a new sheet and brought a tin opener. The day after that someone came to change the lightbulbs. Even that was hard work, and nobody apologised that we'd been inconvenienced during what was supposed to be a relaxing week. Nobody came to clean the dirty parts of the house, so we had to do that ourselves. On our last full day at the property I got a phone call at 9:45am to inform me that a new mattress would be delivered between 10am and 12pm that day, and that someone from Cumbrian Cottages would come to take the old mattress away and make up the new mattress. This is the last thing we wanted on the last day of our holiday. We had to request that the delivery wasn't made during our stay, and was made the following day (change over day) when the property would be empty from 10am to 3pm. The fact that this wasn't automatically what happened was strange. All in all, we were quite disappointed with the house on our second stay, especially given the fact that the property is pitched as being part of a luxury collection. With a little more thought and better care and maintenance, this could be a really lovely place to stay.

In relation to your specific points: The bedside lights have now been replaced. I have no idea what happened to those that were there. Your comments regarding cleaning have been noted. Normally the house keeping team do an exceptional job - as referenced by our high cleanliness score on Reevoo. Your comments have been fed back to the team, as have comments about lightbulbs, tin opener, batteries in scales and cleaning products: I visited the house this week and all of these are now in place. It is helpful when guests tell our agent when things need replacing like the tin opener and light bulbs as they can be missed in the changeover. Re matches - Your comments are helpful - we have had comments before that these were not provided so we now leave a few boxes. These will not be left accessible by children. We do now provide a supply of logs and kindling for the first fire of the stay and will make sure matches are not left with this kit. I don’t know what happened to your comments in the visitor book. Some pages were ripped out from the old book - I don’t know why. The new book has no pages missing. We did have a problem with delivery of the mattress. It should have arrived before your stay but was delayed by the supplier. We thought we should ask if you would be ok with it being changed during your stay. This has now been replaced and the other double mattress will be replaced whilst the house is empty this week - along with new fitted sheets.     Lovely house to stay in with a lot of equipment. Only thing missing for me was some firewood and kindling. Even if this was an option to add to your stay it would help. Other than that it was great
