Description

This beautifully converted stone barn is an ideal base for exploring both Devon and Cornwall.

These beautifully converted stone barns (refs GTM and GTN), adjacent to the owners’ home, are set between the picturesque villages of Altarnun and Polyphant. Both properties combine mellow stone walls and old beams, have well-equipped kitchens and their own garden with furniture, patio and barbecue. The holiday cottages have an elevated position overlooking an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provide an excellent centre for exploring the coastal paths and moors of both Devon and Cornwall. The Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and several magnificent National Trust houses and gardens are within easy reach, as well the fascinating seaside villages of Boscastle, Tintagel, Port Isaac and the food capital of Cornwall, Padstow. An Ordnance Survey walk passes right by the cottages and the area is a walkers’ paradise. The historic market town of Launceston, 5 miles, offers supermarkets, shops, a castle and sports facilities. Plymouth and its many attractions is 25 miles away. The area has a growing reputation for good pubs, restaurants, farm shops and locally produced food. Admired golf courses, fishing, horse riding and cycle ways can be found nearby. Shops and pub 2 miles.

The cottage suited is perfectly for our short stay. Slight problem with the fridge not staying shut. Why pay £5 per day for heating in winter months when it could just be included in overall price?

Enjoyed out stay at the cottage, the proprietor could not be more helpful. We were welcomed with a Cornisdh creamed tea and valuable information of the surrounding area and Cornwall.

We had a lovely time staying at Stable End. The cottage was lovely and there was plenty of utensils etc in the kitchen, so it felt like home from home. The owner met us on arrival and left us some delicious scones and jam. The rooms were lovely and large and very comfortable. The bedrooms were a good size with plenty of room to hang up clothes. We really enjoyed our week at the cottage.

Excellent cottage with all facilities needed for self catering break, with access to some great places to visit or walk, owner very friendly and helpful. Road has a few pot holes as do most in the area and local store has basics should you need them. Would definitely stay again.
