Superb location, great views and walks from cottage, hosts were very welcoming and helpful. Would recommend the Potting Shed in Whitchurch for an evening meal. Cottage immaculate with great views and walks

A fabulous cottage tucked into a hill, close to the top, meaning it is sheltered and has a fantastic view. The approach road is steep and narrow but serves just a few houses so there was no traffic. There is a roomy porch to remove wet shoes and clothes and a large utility with boiler that means things will dry again quickly. The kitchen is large and airy with the most storage available to us that we have ever had. The dining room has a large table, great for dining and to gather to play games. The sitting room is small and darkened by the large conservatory but does seat six. We found the seats a bit too low for old bones and new hips but we coped. The stairs are steep with narrow treads but not a problem. The bedrooms were fine although the main bedroom could have done with a bigger bed. The linen was spotlessly clean, as was the whole house, but was very dated. Still we thoroughly enjoyed our week and will have to return in autumn for the colour and hopefully to see deer. Babs and Roger are lovely people and very helpfully.

Lovely tucked away cottage that offers everything you need. The owners were very welcoming and added extra little touches to make the stay special. The cottage is very well equipped and in an area great for walking/cycling. One morning we saw a pack of deer running through the forest at the back of the cottage. We would definitely visit again but would book a longer stay as didn’t get time to do everything we wanted to in the area.

We enjoyed a fabulous family (myself, my husband and three adult sons) Christmas at Thornhill. Everything about this lovely cottage made it a memorable and relaxing holiday. Thornhill is comfortable and very well equipped - I managed to cook a full Christmas dinner with ease. The utility room, with washing machine and drying facilities was an added bonus. By far the best feature is the large conservatory with extensive views over the surrounding countryside, and I spent many happy hours watching the visitors to the bird table on the terrace. We all said that we would love to come back when the weather is warmer so that we could make use of the large terrace and garden. The hosts were very friendly and welcoming, showing us around the entire cottage on arrival. All in all, a fantastic week in a very comfortable cottage with stunning views. We will definitely visit again in the future.

I took my partner here for his birthday. It’s the most wonderful place we have stayed with exceptional views & every facility within the house. It exceeded my expectations and Rodger was extremely helpful. I would stay here again and I don’t say that lightly as I like to visit different places.

The same as last year five stars. We cannot find fault with thornhill it is a home from home. Barbara and roger are the kindest hosts and are always avaliable to help. We have booked up again for next year!

This was our second visit and it is very difficult to find anything wrong with Thornhill as it is in a gorgeous location, friendly owners and great conservatory, but if we had to find something, the only thing we could come up with is that the L-shaped settee in the lounge is not very comfortable for us old'uns. Howeve, the younger element may love it. Everything else was spot on.

We had an absolutely fantastic week at Thornhill. It offers a unique experience surrounded by beautiful woodland and provides stunning views right from the patio. We fell in love with the house and surroundings and are already planning a return trip next year. Our hosts couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and our two young boys enjoyed the freedom which the child-friendly garden allowed them. The abundant wildlife was the icing on the cake with deer, badgers, foxes and bats all on view.
