Thistle Haugh is a delightful two-bedroom cottage in the peaceful village of Barcaldine, perfectly placed for exploring the magnificent landscapes of Argyll and Scotland’s west coast. Stylish, comfortable and thoughtfully arranged, it provides a relaxing retreat for couples, friends or a family of four.
Inside, the bright open-plan living, dining and kitchen area creates a welcoming space in which everyone can spend time together. Prepare breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen, gather around the dining table for leisurely meals, or settle into the comfortable living area after a memorable day outdoors. Patio doors fill the room with natural light and open directly onto a furnished patio. This sheltered sunspot is ideal for breakfast, morning coffee or an evening drink surrounded by the peace of the countryside.
The spacious master bedroom benefits from an en-suite bathroom with both a bath and separate shower, offering the perfect place to unwind. The inviting twin bedroom is conveniently situated beside an additional shower room, giving every guest privacy and comfort.
Cyclists and walkers will love the cottage’s position just off the Oban to Fort William section of the Caledonia Way. Follow this scenic route towards Benderloch, Appin or Ballachulish, enjoying coastal views, woodland and quiet countryside along the way. Sutherland’s Grove is within walking distance and offers atmospheric trails beneath magnificent Douglas firs, beside tumbling burns and through mossy woodland.
Nearby Benderloch is home to beautiful Tralee Beach, while energetic guests can climb Beinn Lora for panoramic views across the Firth of Lorn and surrounding islands. Continue north to Appin to admire iconic Castle Stalker from the viewpoint, or visit Port Appin and take the passenger ferry across to the peaceful Isle of Lismore.
Oban, known as the Gateway to the Isles, is within easy reach. Browse its independent shops, Oban Whisky Distillery for a tour, enjoy freshly landed seafood, visit Dunollie Castle or Dunstaffnage Castle, and walk up to McCaig’s Tower for superb views over the harbour. Boat trips offer opportunities to spot seals, dolphins, porpoises and seabirds, while regular ferries make a day trip to Mull a wonderful addition to your holiday.
Travelling north brings you to dramatic Glencoe, renowned for its mountain scenery, waterfalls and walking routes. Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis, offers further outdoor adventures, while the shores of Loch Linnhe and Loch Creran provide lovely settings for kayaking, wildlife watching and photography. West of Fort William towards Mallaig is Glenfinnan Viaduct which if you book the Steam Train from Fort William in advance takes you over the Viaduct and down to Mallaig.
Those preferring a gentler pace can enjoy shoreline strolls around Loch Creran. Stop for photographs beside Loch Etive, browse local galleries and craft shops, or linger over lunch in one of Oban’s welcoming cafés and restaurants.
Whether your days are spent cycling, walking, island-hopping over to Lismore, Kerrera or Mull, or simply relaxing on the sunny patio, Thistle Haugh is a warm and welcoming base for an unforgettable Argyll holiday.
