Our hosts were kind, thoughtful and very welcoming, nothing was to much trouble. There were gifts of milk, biscuits, chocolates and flowers. The cottage was clean and tidy and had everything you need for a week away. The area is a mecca for people who love wildlife. There were ducks and Canada geese with ducklings and goslings and many narrow boats on the canal. There is a tow path along the canal for walks and everyone was so friendly.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; We’re very pleased to hear that you liked the welcome on arrival, and that you were happy with the cottage. And it was also nice to hear that you enjoyed the canal with its wildlife and narrowboats, and the walks along the towpath. Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your kind comments.

A wonderful location and a cosy, comfortable, clean cottage with everything you need. We had wonderful weather and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Alfie our dog really appreciated the enclosed garden to play in.

We had a lovely stay in The White Cottage, which is ideally located in lovely countryside, but also within striking distance of the centre of Manchester. We were made to feel very welcome with a blazing fire, fresh flowers and a chocolate treat awaiting us in the cottage when we arrived. The cottage itself was smaller than we expected and was attached to the owner's house, which was not clear from the description. But despite our concerns, the owner was not at all intrusive and this was not a problem - the owner was always available and friendly but did not interfere with our stay.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Very pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and found the location in the countryside and also close to Manchester to be what you were looking for. Glad to hear you felt welcome, and that you enjoyed the Easter egg. Many thanks for taking the time to leave your comments.

Ok, there are many plus points to recommend this property, not least its location by a canal and plenty of good walks nearby and from the property along the canal. The National Trust's Lyme Park is very close with its magnificent house and stunning estate grounds for walks. The cottage is dog friendly and the small garden safe. The rooms were warm, there was hot water on demand and a cosy coal fire for guests use. However, the cottage for us had its disappointments, namely a small, awkward cramped bathroom/toilet with bath/shower and an overpowering musty, old smell in the upstairs bedroom. Also the dining table had old food debris crumbs in the flap joints which could pose a health hazard. Overall, in our personal view, unco-ordinated decor and accessories spoil the ambience of the property. The house has a short, steep staircase with a bannister rail leading to an upstairs kitchen diner which was well-equipped. It seems from the visitors book and the online reviews that many people return to the cottage and it satisfies their needs. There are also some other comments.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; Many thanks for your comments. Please be assured that any maintenance needs which are brought to our attention are acted on promptly, as our priority is the well-being of our guests. As far as we were aware, there were no issues reported regarding the upstairs twin bedroom or kitchen table throughout your stay, otherwise these would have been dealt with immediately. For 2018 we have now completed redecorating both the twin and double bedrooms. Both bedrooms have new carpets, and each room has a new dressing table with mirror & stool. In addition, the twin bedroom has a new wardrobe. Photos of both updated rooms are now available to view online. Thank you also for mentioning that many people return to the cottage. For 2018 we already have bookings from parties who are returning.

Lovely comfortable cottage. Fantastic location and lovely walks along the canal either way to dog friendly pubs. Local pub the soldier dick served fabulous food. Made very welcome, thankyou Chris and Mum.
