This 19th century wheelhouse has been transformed into a unique and characterful property, with fabulous original features such as the exposed sandstone wall and the huge old beam which once supported the mill stone. A farm track leads to the peaceful farm setting, where as well as the resident longhorn cattle you have an abundance of wildlife on your doorstep, from curlews, barn owls and brown hares to deer. Over 50 species of wild birds have been spotted here. Across the fields that surround you there are views of the sea on the horizon, beckoning you down to the coast.
Stepping inside The Wheelhouse, you’ll discover that it has been furnished throughout to a high standard. This is a spacious and welcoming property, perfect for friends as well as families looking to explore this scenic area. On the ground floor you have a wonderful high spec kitchen, with integrated appliances and granite work top. This room is open plan with the dining area and is sure to delight. There is also a ground floor bedroom with zip and link twin beds which can be a sumptuous super kingsize bed, as well as a bathroom with bath and a walk-in rainforest shower. In a room that is sure to amaze, step into the main skeleton of the wheelhouse, with its high, open beamed ceiling which shapes the living room. Beneath this fabulous timber structure, you have sofas and armchairs around the wood burner, with views across the orchard and fields. Up in the eaves is an open mezzanine, with the landing branching out to the second and third bedrooms, one with a kingsize bed, the other with zip and link beds, both generous in size and with plenty of storage for your belongings. The property is complete with a first floor shower room.
Outside is your own private, enclosed patio where you can soak up the sunshine and dine al fresco. On your doorstep there is bridleway, which loops through the countryside, dipping into the nearby Pinkney Bank Wood, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, a perfect way to take in your surroundings. Hop in the car and you can be on the beach in less than 20 minutes, starting at Skinningrove, with its fabulous soft sandy beach. Further north there is the surfers paradise of Saltburn with its Victorian pier. To the south are Staithes, Runswick Bay, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay, all glorious for days out by the coast. The Cleveland Way walking trail connects them all, a scenic clifftop walk, boasting the most incredible views. Inland there is the North York Moors National Park, which is laced with walking trails over the moorland and through ancient forests, with quaint villages and welcoming rural pubs awaiting you. If you are fascinated by history, visit Guisborough Priory and Whitby Abbey, as well as museums including Staithes Heritage Museum, Whitby’s Captain Cook Museum and Hutton le Hole’s Folk Museum. For the adventurous there are water sports including white water rafting, sailing and paddle boarding at Tees Barrage and Scaling Dam, as well as surf schools in Saltburn, Sandsend and Whitby. The nearest pub is in Liverton. There is also a pub and shop beside Scaling Dam, just over two miles away. Horses are welcome to join you on your stay by prior arrangement with the owners.
The local market town of Guisborough, less than 20 minutes away by car, offers a wide range of shops and services; we are happy to accept and put away a home grocery delivery after 11am on the day of your arrival.
