The Weaning shed is in a beautiful quite little village of Huggate. 5 minutes from the local pub which does a good run of food. Huggate is right in the heart of Yorkshire, quiet enough to be allow you to relax in the garden and let the world go by, but close enough to York, Scarborough and beaches in Filey and Bridlington to make day trips out enjoyable without becoming a marathon drive. There's plenty to do and see, lots of lovely walks and bike rides if that's your thing. Our hosts were excellent and went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The Cottage was clean, comfortable and had plenty of amenities. We'll definitely book again.

We found the cottage so welcoming. It was comfortable, spotlessly clean, very well equipped and had lovely touches of a welcome left in the fridge and some treats for your dog. There is a bbq and lots of outside seating dotted around the beautiful gardens. The garage is home to a games room. There is plenty of parking. The cottage is perfectly placed for the areas we wanted to visit, York and the East coast line. Surrounding roads are good and quiet, as is the village. The village has a small children’s play park, a tea room which was open from Monday - Wednesday and a pub open from Thursday. We really enjoyed our break and would return to see more of the surrounding area. We would highly recommend The Weaning Shed as a base for touring around or for a totally relaxing break with excellent walking.

The Weaning Shed was without doubt the most well stocked cottage we've ever been to. Everything was provided including wine and beer for the first night! The cottage is beautiful and decorated to a high standard. The sofas were super comfy and the games in the garage we a hit with the kids. Huggate is nicely placed half way between York and the coast so it's about 40 mins either way which is nice. We visited the beach twice. There is not much in the village. The local pub is lovely and retro, it took me back to my childhood. The food is standard pub grub, a bit pricey for what it was but I understand it's in a tourist location. We tried to go to the tearoom in Huggate but it's only open certain days so we didn't manage it with our other plans. The enclosed garden was a huge bonus with the dog and also the little conservatory on the front door I imagine is great in autumn and winter if you have a wet pooch. It's nice to be able to leave all the shoes out in it and makes it easy. One thing to know about the village is that if like us, you have a cat chasing dog, walking around the village is a challenge! There are a lot of cats. Lastly, we did find our fair share of spiders in the cottage which is obviously not in the owners control but one of our daughters is very phobic and it made for a less relaxing break. Nevertheless we had a good time and the owner was very nice.
