The owners were really lovely and made us feel very welcome after a long drive. The cottage was lovely, we could have sat all day and watched the birds. They were so close and so tame, from the nuthatch to the cheeky woodpeckers. And to top it off in the field were sheep with there lambs. It was divine. It was such a lovely relaxing place to stay. There are no shops nearby but who needs it, when you have all this.

This is a very well located, comfortable holiday property. You can walk directly from the house in the Howgills or use the bungalow as a convenient base for Eden Valley, Lake District and Yorkshire dales. The large windows at the rear of the property look over farmland and a garden with bird feeders. While we stayed, nuthatch and woodpeckers regularly visited the feeders in the garden. The only slight negative is that there is some noise from the main road (the road is built upon the line of the old railway track and as these were the waiting rooms...). This would not put us off staying here again.

My wife and I enjoyed our Christmas & New Year break at the Waiting Room immensely, with welcoming, helpful yet unobtrusive hosts. A real "home from home". (Even when the weather was less than wonderful we were able to watch the many birds making good use of the feeders!) All in all, a very comfortable and cosy retreat. Heartily recommended.
