Overall we enjoyed our stay at The Retreat! It was cosy for 7 adults, 1 child and 1 dog but we didn't feel like we were tripping over each other. Arriving to fresh bread, milk and flowers was thoughtful! The underfloor heating and log burner was a lovely touch too given how cold it has turned in the last week. Can't comment on the local amenities as we didn't use any but there is a pub about a 10 min walk from the house though. As we are city folks, we loved how quiet the location was, in the middle of nowhere surrounded by nature! Main supermarkets are in Gloucester about 20 mins away although it may be worth going to the house first to see what amenities are there. In addition to the bread and milk, there's cooking oil, salt & pepper, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets, washing machine tablets, tea, coffee and sugar. I think it's worth adding to the description that the house is up a bit of a steep, gravel drive way and you may think that you've taken the wrong turn but just persevere and follow the track, the house is definitely there! Glad we arrived in daylight! The only thing we think could have made the stay better would be to have a hot tub in the back garden, there's definitely the space for it! Had a lovely stay!

Booked for my 60th birthday so we needed the space for family & friends over the course of the week. Was more comfortable when there was only 5 of us.

Very enjoyable weekend, clean and well equipped in a nice location. Would stay again. sofa's are very uncomfortable and a more in depth list of what facilities are available would help. Owners very helpful.

The retreat is not in the village you reach it by a track which you would struggle without a 4x4 off a lay-by on a road. You need a car to visit the shops as there is nothing in walking distance. The retreat is very small and the bathroom is in the downstairs bedroom and another next to the kitchen so 5 of our party used this one,the three upstairs rooms only 2 of them have a skylights. The stairs are deadly, there is a stair gate at the top but a very flimsy one,the stairs to the downstairs room are very steep and my daughter fell down them. The outside door to the downstairs doesn’t open. To watch the tv you have to move the table. WiFi is very intermittent. The electric kept going off along with the fire alarms.I wouldn’t recommend you take children under 10 at all and a party of 7 like us tripiing over each other and some sitting on the chairs from the dining set to watch tv.

As a party of 4 adults, 2 of us elderly, a 3 year old and 17 month old we didn’t feel entirely comfortable with the safety and the suitability of the accommodation. The children and their parents used the upstairs bedrooms which were anything but soundproof so that after the children had been put to bed the adults spent the evening whispering to each other so that they weren’t disturbed. The staircase was very difficult for the children and the very deep steps to the downstairs room proved to be a little trying for the oldies. It was very difficult not having a bathroom upstairs and the small washing facility off living accommodation was far too small to be a wet room and flooded the whole floor. The second wet room was fine. There was a distinct lack of instructions for appliances and thermostat resulting in a lot of wasted time. We didn’t find any oven gloves and after asking for a fire guard for the wood burner one was supplied but was so flimsy the 17 month old pulled it on top of himself, luckily not injuring himself. We felt, for safety reasons it should have been more substantial and fixed and a requirement for any property with a wood burner or open fire. We feel that the property is not suitable for young children and the elderly but is more suited to younger adults with less responsibilities for safety etc. We wanted to recycle lots of our rubbish but there was only a box for glass but this may be down to the local council. In the list of amenities in the advertising it did not state that there is a freezer as well as a fridge and that there is WiFi available so this came as a pleasant surprise and was helpful to us. We were also really happy with the welcome pack of scones, milk and flowers and felt that this was a lovely touch. The property is in a lovely area and we hope the points made in this review will be helpful to the owners as it is not a cheap place to rent and with a few changes will be a great success for them.
