Description

This is an ideal holiday base for couples or a small family wanting to discover and explore Sussex and Kent.

Nestling in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, The Peacock Barn is a single-storey, detached, barn conversion. It has been thoughtfully converted to a high standard and enjoys far reaching rural views. A peaceful haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life surrounded by 80 acres of working farmland with sheep, horses and of course, a resident peacock! The property is accessed from Burwash village via a half mile lane and maintained track, with a 15th-century pub at the village end of the lane, serving local ales and good food, which makes for an enjoyable walk. There are miles of walking opportunities directly from the farm. Burwash itself is steeped in history and was a notorious spot for smugglers and highwaymen in the 18th and 19th centuries. The pretty, weather-boarded high street is a conservation area, and Bateman’s mansion, a fine example of Jacobean architecture, is just outside the main village. It was once owned by Rudyard Kipling and is now open to the public (NT). Battle Abbey lies 9 miles to the south east, Bodiam Castle, (also NT) with its fairytale moat, is 8 miles to the east. Enjoy a trip on the Kent and East Sussex steam railway which runs from Bodiam to Tenterden, known as ’The Jewel in the Weald’, through 101/2 miles of beautiful Kent and Sussex countryside. Fishing, cycling and water sports can be enjoyed at Bewl Water, and the many award-winning local vineyards are an enjoyable day out. Camber Sands near Rye is a magnificent beach or discover the beaches at Hastings and Bexhill. Discover Bedgebury, not only offering the pinetum but also Go Ape too. The owner lives on site for your convenience and the parking is in the cottage grounds. Beach 15 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1/2 mile.

Living/dining room with wood-burning stove, open to well-equipped kitchen, all with wooden floors. Double bedroom with 6ft zip & link bed (can be twin). Further double bedroom with 5ft bed. Bathroom with separate shower cubicle and toilet.

Excellent barn conversion with first class facilities and very cosy and warm. Our dog loved it and was well contained in the large hard standing outside area. Lovely walk down the the track to the Rose & Crown where food wine and ale is also excellent. Nina and John very welcoming and always available if needed.

The Peacock Barn is one of those places where you feel instantly at home. If I could buy, or rent this gem of a place I would! Wonderful location, with beautiful views. We loved the livestock, especially Bentley th Peacock. Nina and John are soooo nice and helpful, but non-intrusive! Don't hesitate to book here. You really can't go wrong! I'll be back at the earliest opportunity.

A wonderful quiet location with lovely views, in an area full of places to visit The barn is far more spacious than I expected, and provides everything you could need. Comfortable beds, lovely bathroom. The owners were lovely. The pub at the end of the farm lane was great and very welcoming to our dog.

We have just come back from the peacock barn we have two dogs and this was great as the area the barn is in is well secured with plenty of space for them to run around. The views are great and so relaxing the owners are on hand if you need any questions answered. The cottage is so well equipped you don’t want for anything and spotless. At the and of the lane is a great traditional pub very welcoming and great food. If you want a chilled out break this is for you we hope to return next year.

The cottage is brilliant accommodation with modern amenities and very friendly obliging owners in farm. Views of the countryside are spectacular. The only qualm we had is the mud track that has to be traversed from Burwash high street to get to cottage. It's full of potholes and best if you have a 4x4 - we didn't and you need to be careful to avoid damaging exhaust. Entry roads like this are never flagged up in the brochures - I wonder why.
