Welcome to The Owlery at Aysgarth, a stylish and quirky barn conversion with a perfect blend of traditional and contemporary style, nestled next to the owner’s home. This gorgeous one bedroom property is perfect for couples looking for a romantic escape to the country.
Built in the 1830s at the same time as the main house, The Owlery at Aysgarth lies just off the main village road through Aysgarth making it both close to the amenities of the village with a well-stocked licensed garage shop, 100 yards away, a pub and restaurant 50 yards away and a tea shop 100 yards away, yet it remains quiet and secluded on a no-through road. The garden/paddock offers stunning views across the Wensleydale valley towards Swaledale.
This delightful property is just a half-mile walk across fields to the beautiful Aysgarth Falls. This same footpath is the main route for walkers linking Bainbridge and Hawes. This stretch is part of the historic Wainwright Coast to Coast Walk and the popular Herriot Way through Wensleydale. There are many diverse walks accessible from the property and the surrounding villages, from a gentle stroll through sheep filled fields and woodland along the banks of the River Ure, to the more challenging walks to the top of the nearby landmark Penhill.
There are two pubs in the village, both serving excellent food and local beers. The wonderfully stocked delicatessen in nearby Leyburn and the creamery at Wensleydale are a food lover’s dream, as are many of the pubs in and around Wensleydale all serving wonderful local produce. The location to Aysgarth village means the property is central to all of the attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the market town of Bedale, Hawes and the famous Hardraw Force, and the Wensleydale community run steam train. Nearby historic Bolton Castle, where Mary Queen of Scots was held for a time, offers an interesting day out. The wider Aysgarth area offered inspiration for JM Turner who painted landscapes here and still serves today inspiration to the many landscape artists attracted to the area each year.
For the more active, the local roads are excellent for the keen cyclist forming part of the annual Tour de Yorkshire through Wensleydale – with many routes of different levels of challenge cutting through the beautiful Yorkshire Dales villages and countryside. There is superb fishing available, the River Aire, River Wharf and in particular the River Ure are renowned for the stocks of grayling, trout and their spectacular river banks. There is a variety of horse riding experiences offered at the nearby Wensleydale Equestrian in Bainbridge and at other centres in the Yorkshire Dales. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 50 yards.
