In addition to the main shopping street where you will find a selection of small supermarkets, there are parks and gardens, museums and the Winter Gardens - an entertainment venue with a growing reputation for theatre, concerts, comedy and dance shows, and of course the restaurant/bar. There is a number of great restaurants in Ventnor popular with locals and tourists alike. There is a famous pub sitting right on the sea, also popular with the locals, and there are some great tea and coffee shops including one with a 1940s theme. Or if you fancy a take-away to enjoy by the beach, the fish and chip shop on The Esplanade sells fantastic fish and chips, locally caught and prepared to order.
Ventnor Botanic Garden lies in the remarkable microclimate at the heart of the famous ’Undercliff.’ This unique garden is protected from the cold northerly winds by chalk downs. In addition to enjoying the lovely gardens, it also hosts events and exhibitions and there is a restaurant and café on-site for refreshments, lunch or coffee and cake. From The Esplanade you can take the level walk, along the sea wall to Bonchurch, or walk along the cliff path towards Steephill Cove, a beautiful, sheltered bay only accessed by foot.
