Pretty two storey holiday cottage right beside the village stream. Picturesque village location on the famous NYM’s steam railway line.

With origins dating back to 1210, this former water mill occupies a unique riverside setting, quite literally a stones throw from Goathland station. Set peacefully away within lush gardens that are a haven for wildlife, The Mill offers an ideal base from which to explore the rugged splendour of the North York Moors National Park, where bridleways and footpaths abound. Watch steam trains from the comfort of the bed, or better still, hop on board and head for nearby Pickering or Whitby and the wonderful independent shops and restaurants there. York and Helmsley are both within an hour. Shop and pub 1/4 mile.

Spacious, beamed living/dining room with wood-burning stove/kitchen with river views and tiled floor. Bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Lower ground floor: Double bedroom with TV. Twin bedroom. Shower room with toilet.

Wonderful selection of books, dvds, cds, games and local information if you are unlucky enough to get poor weather (we didn’t).Everything about the Mill was at least on a par with any cottage we have ever stayed in(20+).The outlook from the cottage was stunning and the close proximity of the North Yorkshire Moors Railway was a massive bonus. It is separated from the cottage only by the river/waterfall which runs alongside the property.

The Mill is a fabulous cottage . It is very clean, comfortable and warm. It is very well equipped with everything anyone could need during their stay. Its position by the river and the steam railway station is unique. I would highly recommend the mill to anyone.

For us, a perfect cottage in a perfect location, right at the side of the river and Goathland Station with large windows for watching the garden birds, and French doors from which to wave at the passing steam trains (very Railway Children!) The cottage is a home from home with the best equipped kitchen I've come across in a holiday cottage. The owners have thought of everything, from mountains of wood for the burner to plastic buckets to put over the outside lights so we could appreciate the Dark Skies. It's obvious from the very first correspondence that ensuring their customers enjoy their stay is of paramount importance. Goathland is a beautiful location, with easy access to walks around the NY Moors and the stunning coastal towns of Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay, Runswick Bay and more. Just make sure your handbrake is working well, as the cottage drive is quiet steep! But then it is in one of the hilliest parts of the UK! We loved this cottage and will definitely return asap (if only we could retire there!).

We have stay at this cottage most New Years which speaks volumes about how wonderful it is. The amenities are second to none and it is so clean and comfortable in a stunning part of the country for walking and cycling. There are also 2 great bars and restaurants within walking distance (Malyan Spout and Inn on the Moor) and if you like Heartbeat there is the local pub. There are plenty of logs left for the real fire and space in the garage to store bikes and plenty of space to relax on an evening. The owners also leave a lovely welcome pack with essentials and lovely treats from a local deli just outside Whitby and at New Year the Christmas Tree is up and lit as you enter with a selection of specially wrapped Christmas gifts underneath - the attention to detail is first class.

Lovely cottage in an excellent location next to the water and train station. Nice welcome pack on arrival. A bit of a mish mash with the decor but it's quirky. We have been 4 times now and would return again.
