Description

Explore Shropshire from this idyllic location, and visit the ever popular Ironbridge Gorge and museums, easily accessible from the property.

This stunning detached holiday lodge is located in a superb position, on the same site as the largest waterwheel powering a corn mill, still working in England today and virtually unaltered since the 18th century - still in ownership of the same family for over 250 years. Set in the idyllic Shropshire countryside, deep in a wooded valley, crossed by the 19th-century viaduct, this is one of Shropshire’s finest locations. Visitors to the area are a 1-mile walk from the town centre, where you will find High Town and Low Town, plus the famous cliff railway. Other attractions nearby include Rays farm, Cosford Museum, Dudmaston Hall NT and the ever popular Ironbridge gorge and museums. There are good road links to the rest of south Shropshire including Ludlow, Much Wenlock and Shrewsbury, where you can enjoy anything from castles, festivals, and horse racing to the events at Theatre Severn. Golf and fishing nearby. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant ¼ mile.

Ground floor: Living room. Dining room. Kitchen. Separate toilet. First floor: 2 bedrooms: 1 double (5ft) with en-suite bathroom with bath, shower attachment and toilet, 1 twin with en-suite shower room and toilet.

Gas central heating (underfloor on ground floor), electricity, bed linen and towels included. Cot, highchair and stairgate. Doggy extras. Freeview TV. DVD. CD. iPod dock. Electric cooker. Microwave. Washing machine. Tumble dryer. Dishwasher. Freezer. Wi-fi. Enclosed garden with patio and furniture. Portable barbecue. Ample parking. No smoking. NB: Stream in grounds.

Very nice suitably equipped lodge in beautiful surroundings and very close to the picturesque and historical small town of Bridgenorth. Only small niggle was the heating upstairs which didn't always come on which made the bathroom particularly cold.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the owner; I’m really sorry & surprised this happened as the property is always really cosy. I do say to all visitors to let me know if there are any issues at all - I only live a mile away. The previous visitors must have overridden the heating - will make sure I hide the controller from now on!

This cottage is set in a stunning location and is very convenient for the Severn Valley Railway. You can watch the trains passing on the bridge. At least you could if you could open the blinds. It is generally clean and cosy and the bread and milk awaiting us was a nice touch. However, there are a few problems with it that would make us not want to stay there again. The twin bedroom is far apart from the double in terms of comfort and convenience. Only one pillow on each bed, no towels (we had to search for some), but the worst thing was the terrible smell in the shower room. We had to keep the skylight open all the time we were there and the smell persisted until the day before we left. The shower screen does not fit well and all the drawers stick and are difficult to open and close. The other bedroom is fine, except that it is not possible to stand up in the bath, due to the low ceiling, unless you are very short, making it difficult to get in and out. Downstairs is much nicer though it is difficult to keep the fridge door closed. Overall, this cottage could be lovely but it needs quite a lot of attention. To sum up, we would say it would be fine for a couple, as long as neither are too tall but is not suitable for four adults, unless the problems with the twin room are sorted out and more care taken with its preparation.

    Response from:

Response on behalf of the Owner; It is very important to me that my visitors have a comfortable stay. I always say to ring me if there are any issues or queries as I only live a mile away and can sort most things out promptly. The place is always immaculately clean. I am sorry if there was confusion over towels in the second room - extra pillows and cushions are in the chest in that room and a complete change of all bedlinen, towels etc. are in the property, which guests can use if needed. The shower screen, fridge door, blind work fine if used/closed thoughtfully but will be attended to see if they can be improved upon. There is no terrible smell in the shower room.

We down marked down the Comfort and Equipment because: The Kitchen knives used for cooking would struggle to cut hot butter. There was no washing up liquid With 3 toilets there was only 1 toilet roll .

The cottage was really well equipped and felt like home very quickly. Everything was convenient, parking, wifi. location. It was really close to the town so only took a few minutes to get to local shops but on the other hand it was quiet so away from the hustle and bussle of everyday life which we wanted to get away from for a week. But best of all was the unexpected surprise of superb views of the Severn Valley Railway from the cottage windows!! The cottage was well looked after and any problems were quickly dealt with by the proprietor. Would definitely like to return to the Hurstings.

Lovely house, nice and clean and modern. The only slight problem is the bathroom and the en-suite. They are not suitable for anyone too tall (husband is 6ft.4). It was virtually impossible for him to get in the bath as it was in the eves below a velux window. The shower itself was too low down for him. All said the house was nice and everything was there that you needed. Would go back if they changed the bathrooms.

We had a very enjoyable few days at the Hurstings. The cottage is suitable for toddlers which was good, so many places are not. The cottage was well equipped and cosy, and Anne was very welcoming.
